Job Description Johnson County Department of Corrections is looking for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Juvenile Intake Specialist at the Juvenile Services Center in Olathe, Kansas. This role operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and requires availability on evening, night, or weekend shifts. The incumbent will support the juvenile intake and assessment process through a variety of functions, including: Completing the intake process with the alleged CINC and/or alleged juvenile offender, meeting or discussing with those directly involved (law enforcement, family members/legal guardians, other agencies, and entities, etc.); conducting the required psychosocial interview with the juvenile and administering screening instruments such as the MAYSI‑2, Kansas Detention Assessment Instrument (KDAI), and entering data into ATHENA. Initiating and completing the booking process while gathering demographic information, family history, criminal history, abuse/CINC history, and other necessary data; ensuring all reports are received from law enforcement prior to the youth’s departure from JIAC. Making referrals for housing and supervision placement decisions, working to divert youth from out‑of‑home placement when possible; collaborating with providers and community resources to explore all options for services for juveniles and their families. Processing data entry and paperwork within a strict timeline; providing detailed reports for each intake completed. These reports are used by many entities to provide an accurate and comprehensive view of each youth’s life and particular incident. Job Requirements Minimum Job Requirements: Age 21 or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college coursework in human services or a related field OR two (2) years of experience working with youth and families. Successful completion of a criminal history check. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for positions requiring driving; not required for the Intake Specialist role. Not registered on the Kansas child/adult registry. Submission and passing of a pre‑employment, post‑offer drug screen prior to employment. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Family or Human Sciences/Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
