General Farm Laborer

Hours: 48 hours/week, Mon.-Sat. 8 hours/day, 7:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Additional hours of work, i.e., on Sabbath, or holidays may be offered under this job order, but may not be required.

Workers will assist with all aspects of grain, corn, and soybean production. Preparing the land for planting starts in February and March and then planting occurs from April until June. In the summer months, July to September, Workers will participate in maintenance of crops and farm. In the fall, harvest and production would start in September and run through November and December. Laborers are responsible for preparing, maintaining, cleaning, operating, and repairing all machinery and equipment used for farm labor. Workers will also participate in hauling grain using a truck, cleaning out the grain bins using a broom and shovel, trimming tree branches along field edges using a chainsaw, and picking rocks using a tractor and rock picker.

Worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.

The employer maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace. Employer will test for drug or alcohol use upon reasonable suspicion that the worker may be affected by drugs or alcohol that could adversely affect job performance or the work environment, including safety related performance of the worker or other persons.

Minimum Education Required

No High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum Experience Required

Worker must be able to use farm, operation, and maintenance machinery.

Worker must have a valid Class D Driver’s License or be able to obtain one upon hire.

Worker must be able to be on their feet in bent, stooped and crouched positions and on ladders up to ten (10) feet in height for long periods of time.

Worker must be able to lift and carry materials or equipment with a weight of seventy-five (75) pounds frequently throughout the workday.

Worker must be able to perform work that requires exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions, extensive pushing or pulling, sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, and repetitive movements.

$14.60 / Hourly

Additional Compensation

Merit based bonuses may be given. Higher hourly rate may be given based on experience, tenure, skill, and other non-discriminatory factors.

As required for all workers in Minnesota, hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay.

EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge by employer.

Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
