Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 (Pay is based on confirmed ECE credits)

Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the daily operation of the classroom by assisting teaching staff with instruction, active supervision, classroom routines, learning activities, and the overall care and development of children. This position works under the direction of the Site Supervisor and/or designated classroom leadership to maintain a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and compliant learning environment.

The Assistant Teacher is expected to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and a commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of every child in care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Classroom Support and Instruction

• Assist with developmentally appropriate classroom activities, learning centers, small-group instruction, and daily routines under the direction of classroom leadership.
• Prepare instructional materials, classroom supplies, learning centers, and activity areas.
• Support implementation of established lesson plans and classroom schedules.
• Encourage children's participation, exploration, communication, creativity, and development through positive interactions.

Child Supervision and Safety

• Maintain active supervision of children at all times in accordance with program expectations and applicable regulations.
• Support safe transitions between classrooms, meals, outdoor activities, rest periods, toileting, and other daily routines.
• Immediately report safety hazards, injuries, supervision concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, and other serious concerns through the appropriate reporting process.
• Follow all classroom ratio, supervision, health, sanitation, emergency, and safety procedures.

Classroom Environment

• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, sanitary, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
• Support cleaning and sanitizing of classroom materials, equipment, toys, tables, and other areas as assigned.
• Help ensure classroom materials and equipment are properly maintained and safely stored.

Teamwork and Professional Conduct

• Follow direction provided by the Lead Teacher, Site Supervisor, Director, or other designated leadership.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and leadership.
• Participate in required meetings, training, professional development, and program activities.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, employees, and program information.

General Expectations for All Teaching Positions

All HBMPAA teaching staff are expected to:

• Place the health, safety, supervision, and well-being of children as a primary responsibility.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, funding requirements, and HBMPAA policies and procedures.
• Maintain required qualifications, permits, certifications, clearances, and training throughout employment.
• Immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporter requirements.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Attend required meetings, training, professional development, and compliance activities.
• Follow established procedures for documenting and reporting incidents, injuries, safety concerns, supervision concerns, and policy violations.
• Cooperate with licensing reviews, investigations, audits, inspections, and corrective action processes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned based on program and operational needs.

Note: Job duties and assignments may be modified based on program needs, regulatory requirements, funding requirements, licensing standards, or changes in HBMPAA operations. Employees are responsible for maintaining the qualifications applicable to their assigned position and classroom.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• Must have completed a minimum of six (6) semester units/credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development .
• Must meet HBMPAA requirements for the position and be eligible to obtain the applicable Assistant Teacher-level Child Development Permit .
• Must maintain any permit, education, or professional development requirements applicable to the assigned position.
• Must complete and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and Mandated Reporter training, as required.
• Must satisfy all applicable background clearance, health screening, immunization, and other employment or licensing requirements.
• Infant/Toddler Assignment: Must possess the required Infant/Toddler coursework before being assigned responsibilities requiring such coursework.
