Position Title: Residence Hall Coordinator Institution: California State University–Sacramento Classification Title: Student Services Professional II FLSA status: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation) Recruitment Type: Temporary (Annually Renewable) Time Base: Full‑Time Work Hours: Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; flexible schedule, evenings, weekends, holidays; on‑call duty rotation. Job Summary Under the lead work direction of the Assistant Director of Training, Housing Conduct & Care (AD) and/or the Assistant Director of Student Success and Recruitment (AD) and under general supervision of the Associate Director of Residence Education (ADRE), the Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) is responsible for the development of a positive community atmosphere in the assigned living environment conducive to student development and academic success. The purpose of this role is to assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; to provide learning experiences that supplement classroom instruction; and to encourage utilization of campus resources and application of knowledge and skills gained during university careers. The RHC implements and carries out University Housing Services conduct within their assigned community, works with department leads or the ADRE on higher‑level conduct issues, serves as the first responder to safety, crisis, and emergency situations, and oversees the daily building administration, procedures, and operation of the hall. Additional responsibilities include project work, committee participation, leadership of 1–2 residence halls, supervision of 6–14 Resident Advisors, 8–15 Desk Attendants, and 1–4 graduate student aides, advising Hall Council, and performing academic advising. Key Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and coordinate activities of residence halls and student staff. Implement University Housing Services conduct and policies. Act as first responder to safety and emergency situations. Oversee daily building administration and operations. Participate in projects, committees, and campus improvement activities. Provide academic advising and support to resident students. Develop and maintain a positive community atmosphere. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and abilities in program management, research and interview techniques, individual and group behavior principles, and ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations. Evidence of decision‑making and carrying through actions that impact other service areas. Understanding of multicultural, multi‑through‑aged value systems and ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners. Experience: equivalent to two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field (a master’s degree may substitute one year). Education: graduation from a four‑year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field (specialized experience may substitute). Required Qualifications University student services experience (e.g., advising, admissions, community development, conduct, residential education, student programming). Experience working with students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to independently prioritize, plan, and organize work in a fast‑paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to provide direct programs and services to a diverse student population. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports; prepare and give presentations. Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Familiarity with school‑based record/data systems/software (PeopleSoft, StarRez). Ability to understand, interpret, and apply moderately complex rules, regulations, and procedures; maintain confidentiality. Ability to train and provide lead work direction to others (student employees/ leaders). Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents.
