Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a 337-bed hospital in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills.

Details

• 34-bed Med/Surg Tele unit with an average census of 32 patients
• Patient population includes medical diagnoses such as DKA, sepsis, CHF, AKI, pneumonia, anemia, and sickle cell crisis, as well as surgical cases including pancreatitis, spinal fusions, and orthopedic total joint replacements (knees/hips)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-1:8
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Floating is required within Region 2, which includes Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• EMR: Epic
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and Rover communication devices
• Telemetry monitoring is not remote — nursing staff are responsible for reading and posting rhythm strips each shift

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
• Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
• General Med/Surg skills required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Departmental support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a 24/7 HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a dedicated unit pharmacist, two case managers, a Med/Surg Clinical Nurse Specialist, a nurse educator, 24/7 RT (who perform nebulizer treatments), and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
• Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) session and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
• Parking is complimentary

• Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered

• The facility is a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center but is not a trauma or teaching hospital
