Staff Software Engineer, Data Cloud Memorystore Google's software engineers develop the next‑generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to manage information at a massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast‑paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full‑stack as we continue to push technology forward. As part of the Cloud Memorystore team in Kirkland, you will help deliver high‑performance, highly available cache‑as‑a‑service for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customers, empowering developers to improve application performance through high‑throughput, low‑latency in‑memory data for persistent backends like SQL and other datastores. You will own three fully managed services that are Valkey, Redis, and Memcached—built on Google’s scalable and secure infrastructure. You will manage technical problems spanning multiple areas of distributed systems, directly impacting customers at planet‑scale. Experience in designing and developing performance‑intensive systems with multithreading and synchronization. Experience with redis, memcached, or other caching or database systems. Preferred qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction. 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross‑functional, or cross‑business projects. Experience in building managed services, especially Caching, Proxy, Database or Storage. Responsibilities Lead the development and own the long‑term technical roadmap. Architect and drive the design of systems, leading the team in implementing and delivering functionality to large customers with demanding workloads. Build and grow a team of talented software engineers to develop and deliver critical database features around Redis/Memcached, security and privacy, and manageability. Drive complex technical projects, including planning and execution, and provide leadership in an innovative and fast‑paced environment. Partner with several teams across different product areas and geographic locations, also with customers, to build the best products.
