Job Responsibilities


A sweeping Grand Strand beach, pristine and wide open, stands as one of the most recognizable South Carolina landmarks. Revel in sea-breeze camping, the finest surf fishing South Carolina has to offer and some of the top bird-watching on the East Coast. That's not all Huntington Beach State Park has to offer. There are also South Carolina landmarks such as Atalaya, the picturesque, Moorish-style winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, philanthropist and sculptor, respectively, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy. Nature lovers also will enjoy the park's wide variety of programming, including the chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close. The park's freshwater lake is a sure-fire place to see alligators and sometimes even a mink or two. Art lovers, meanwhile, flock by the thousands to the prestigious, juried Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival held each September in and around the former home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Manages all retail facilities for Huntington Beach State Park.

1) Oversees the management of all retail outlets and related facilities.
2) Supervises and participates in the preparation of the park's fiscal records to include weekly operational reports as well as monthly and yearly operational summaries.
3) Manages the human resources of the retail outlets including supervision, delegation of responsibilities and completion of performance appraisals.
4) Directs requisitioning, storage and distribution of forms, supplies and equipment.
5) Ensures that established policies, procedures and guidelines are followed in the collection and accounting of all revenues associated with retail outlets.
6) Work to accomplish the mission of the Park Service through the core values of Stewardship and Service. Effectively deliver quality customer service and address visitor concerns in a timely manner. Work to ensure that visitors leave with a positive experience and a desire to return.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the work unit/office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
Minimum and Additional Requirements


Associate's degree in business or public administration and two (2) years experience in retail sales management.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with various equipment such as computers, calculators, cash registers, etc. Position requires flexible scheduling to include weekends, nights and holidays.
2) Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.
3) Ability to deal with customers in a cordial and professional manner.
