REGISTERED NURSE SPECIALIST

WORK YOU WILL DO The primary function of the Registered Nurse Specialist is to conduct inspections using the established survey process, evaluate health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for participation under Medicare/Medicaid, document findings, and complete written reports. The incumbent may conduct surveys as an individual, team member, or team leader. As assigned by management, the role requires completion of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment. Work may involve weekends, holidays, and emergency situations—including disasters—potentially requiring presence in another county or staffing location and overnight travel. A good attendance record is essential; the incumbent must report to work daily and on time, with leave requested in advance except in emergencies beyond the employee’s control. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of state licensure and federal certification survey requirements. Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to develop and implement programs monitoring methodologies and techniques. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to prioritize workload. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively, including oral communication and attentive listening. Skills in interview procedures, team dynamics, and performance evaluation methods. Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data required for licensure and certification functions. Ability to travel with or without accommodations. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS Licensure as a registered professional nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464. Two (2) years of professional nursing experience. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Registered Professional Nurse licensure under Florida Statute 464 or eligibility to practice nursing under Florida Administrative Code 64B9-3. BACKGROUND SCREENING Successful completion of a State and National criminal history check is a condition of employment. Screening includes fingerprinting for State and Federal records through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with potential local law‑enforcement checks.
