Job Description:\n\nTake Your Medical Assistant Skills Beyond the Clinic! Ready for a Medical Assistant role that isn't confined to the same four walls every day? Kinston Health is looking for a Mobile & Outreach Medical Assistant who wants to take their clinical skills into the community—supporting patients through home visits, mobile medical clinics, health screenings, community events, and traditional clinical care. This is not your typical Medical Assistant position. You'll work alongside providers and clinical teams to deliver hands-on patient care while also helping individuals overcome barriers, navigate healthcare services, and connect with resources that can improve their health and well-being. One day may take you aboard our mobile medical unit, another into a patient's home, and another to a community health event—all while using the Medical Assistant skills you've worked hard to build. The Outreach Medical Assistant supports Kinston Health's community outreach and mobile medical operations by providing direct patient care and clinical support under the direction of licensed providers. This position delivers Medical Assistant services in a variety of settings, including patient homes, community locations, health screenings, mobile medical clinics, and Kinston Health facilities. In addition to traditional Medical Assistant responsibilities, this position supports patient outreach, health education, care navigation, and connections to healthcare and community resources. The role helps extend access to care beyond traditional clinical settings and supports Kinston Health's mission to improve the health of the communities we serve. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program preferred. Certifications & Licenses: Certified or Registered Medical Assistant in good standing required.CPR/BLS certification required.Valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record and eligibility for organizational vehicle insurance. Experience: One or more years of experience in a clinical, healthcare, mobile medical, home health, public health, or community-based setting preferred.Experience working with underserved, vulnerable, elderly, disabled, or medically complex populations strongly preferred.Experience with community outreach, patient navigation, health education, or resource coordination preferred.Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.Ability to work independently in home and community-based settings while collaborating effectively with providers, clinical staff, internal departments, and community partners.Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare management systems.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to safely and efficiently operate mobile medical unit systems, equipment, and organizational vehicles.Ability to adapt to changing environments and provide professional, patient-centered support across clinical, mobile, community, and home-based settings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical & Medical Assistant Responsibilities Accurately measure and document vital signs, medical histories, chief complaints, and other relevant clinical information.Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed.Perform routine screenings and tests in patient homes, community settings, Kinston Health facilities, and aboard the mobile medical unit in accordance with established clinical protocols.Prepare and administer medications and injections under appropriate practitioner authorization and within the scope of the position.Perform venipuncture and collect, prepare, label, and handle specimens for laboratory testing as appropriately trained and authorized.Maintain clean, organized, stocked, and patient-ready clinical spaces, including exam rooms and the mobile medical unit.Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment and properly dispose of biohazardous and contaminated waste in accordance with applicable safety standards.Maintain active BLS certification and perform CPR when required.Follow all applicable OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, clinical, and organizational requirements. Home Visits, Mobile Medical & Community Outreach Conduct patient home visits and provide Medical Assistant support in community-based settings as assigned.Support providers and clinical staff during mobile medical clinics, health screenings, outreach events, and other community-based healthcare activities.Assist with the setup, operation, stocking, and breakdown of the mobile medical unit and outreach activities.Engage patients and community members to increase awareness of Kinston Health services and connect individuals who may benefit from establishing care with a Kinston Health provider.Professionally represent Kinston Health at community meetings, health fairs, mobile clinics, and other outreach activities. Patient Navigation, Education & Resource Coordination Educate patients, families, and caregivers about healthcare services, preventive health, care plans, self-management strategies, and available Kinston Health programs within the scope of the position.Identify barriers to care and communicate patient needs to appropriate members of the care team.Assist patients with navigating medical, behavioral health, social, and community-based services.Complete social determinants of health screenings or assessments as assigned and connect patients with appropriate resources and referrals based on identified needs.Conduct timely patient follow-up to support continuity of care and successful connections to recommended services and resources. Patient Access, Administrative & EHR Support Schedule and reschedule appointments, conduct patient calls, complete patient registration, and assist with transportation coordination as needed.Create and update patient information and accurately document clinical encounters, outreach activities, referrals, follow-up contacts, screenings, charge entries, appointments, and other required information in NextGen or assigned systems.Support provider efficiency by completing delegated administrative tasks, documentation, paperwork, and patient communications.Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient records, applications, personal information, and other sensitive information. Mobile Operations, Performance & Quality Improvement Safely operate organizational vehicles and the mobile medical unit as assigned and authorized.Perform required vehicle and mobile unit safety checks and maintain accurate documentation.Track and report assigned performance measures, including patients served, outreach activities, screenings, referrals, follow-up contacts, and new patients connected to Kinston Health providers.Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support data collection and reporting required by Kinston Health, grantors, funding sources, or regulatory agencies.Attend meetings, trainings, community events, and professional development activities as assigned.Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing Kinston Health across clinical, community, mobile, home-based, and public settings.Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs. Work Environment & Schedule Must be able and comfortable working in a variety of settings including, but not limited to clinical environments and office spaces.Participation in community events may involve outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions, including high or low temperatures.Must be able to work nights and weekends as departmental needs arise.Must be able to operate all company vehicles safely during both daytime and nighttime hours. Physical Demands Frequent standing and walking for extended periods during clinical care, home visits, mobile medical clinics, and community events.Ability to lift, carry, move, or position patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and assist with patient transfers as required.Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and other physical movement necessary to provide patient care and support outreach activities.Fine motor skills and manual dexterity required for injections, venipuncture, specimen collection, operation of medical equipment, documentation, and computer entry.Ability to see and hear sufficiently to assess patients, read records and equipment displays, operate medical equipment, and respond appropriately to clinical situations.Ability to safely enter and work within patient homes and navigate clinical, mobile, community, and outdoor environments.Ability to operate organizational vehicles during daytime and nighttime hours.Ability to tolerate physically demanding and occasionally stressful healthcare and community-based work environments.
