Job Title Auto Mechanic B L1-2 Job Description Our Transportation Operations department is currently searching for an Auto Mechanic B L1-2. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair a diverse range of company vehicles including cars, vans, trucks, and various equipment. The role demands a thorough understanding of automotive systems, a problem‑solving mindset, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency. Location: E16 St Old Service Center, New York. Job Schedule: Full time. Shift: Full Rotating. Function: Mechanical/Technician. Family: Technical. Minimum Salary: $30.08. Maximum Salary: $42.55. Responsibilities Show comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems and hand‑on experience repairing drive trains, hydraulics, and coolant systems. Perform labor‑intensive tasks up to 50 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and lifting; extensive walking, climbing, standing, driving, and working in, under, and on top of all types of vehicles and equipment. Obtain a CDL Class A license within 12 months or a CDL A license already held. Obtain applicable certificates of fitness from the NYC Fire Department and a New York State DMV Inspectors Certification within 6 months. Be assigned to any Transportation Operations garage in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, or Westchester. Use all automotive repair tools provided, and wear the supplied uniform and safety shoes. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant work experience or a relevant automotive certificate from a post‑secondary vocational school in Auto Mechanics/Automotive Technology or related field. Associate’s Degree in Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or related field. Hands‑on experience repairing drive trains, hydraulics, and coolant systems. ASE certification in Engine Repair, Electrical and Brakes, or equivalent industry/major manufacturer certifications (preferred). Driver’s license (required). Certificate of Fitness from FDNY (required within 180 days). NYS DMV Inspectors License (required within 180 days). Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A (required within 1 year). Physical Demands Perform heavy manual labor, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and equipment. Be approved to wear and use a full or half‑face respirator in compliance with OSHA regulations. Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach during the workday. Work rotating shifts including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays. Respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to customers.
