Graduate Nurse – May 2026 Graduation – 4th floor Wheeling Hospital invites applications for the Graduate Nurse position. This role supports the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent will exercise independent nursing judgment, accept accountability, and use clinical knowledge and skills to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate safety and continuity of care using documentation, handoff tools/processes, and other methods. Create care plans using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes. Recognize patient safety concerns through appropriate resources. Provide education tailored to the patient’s unique learning needs. Incorporate patient individuality and data into care delivery. Perform thorough patient assessments and comprehensive documentation. Apply the teach‑back method to evaluate education effectiveness. Utilize evidence‑based practice (EBP) in nursing care. Participate in organizational patient‑centered care models. Document problems and issues in the care plan. Grow in ability to care for complex patients through collaboration with experienced colleagues. Commit to lifelong learning through self‑reflection and inquiry. Maintain accountability for delegated nursing care. Recognize the scope of practice for all interprofessional team members. Engage in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection. Assess the impact of family dynamics on patient health and wellness. Integrate the ANA code of ethics to guide nursing practice. Identify discriminatory practices in culturally diverse populations. Individualize care based on patient beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn. Physical Requirements Manual patient handling should minimize lifts, with a limit of 35 lbs. All transfers to be performed with lift equipment or patient‑handling aids as indicated. Work requires strength and stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials weighing 40+ lbs. Visual acuity and hearing within normal range are required. Working Environment Protracted or irregular hours. Exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. Work around the deceased. Hands in water; electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment. Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Competent clinical practice and critical thinking to deliver efficient patient care and maximize resource use. Flexibility in response to changes in workload, staffing, and scheduling. Ability to work under highly stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads. Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of service or a multi‑state RN license via the Nurse Licensure Compact. Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire. Less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. CAPE Program (Clinical Advancement Program) Level 1: No experience required; graduate nurses with Level 2: Meets previous level requirements with one year experience. Level 3: Meets previous level requirements; 2 years experience and one specialty certification. Level 4: BSN or higher or ADN/diploma with 5 years experience; one specialty certification required. Level 5: MSN or higher with 4 years experience, or BSN with 4 years experience plus a health‑related master’s; one specialty certification required. Level 6: MSN or higher with 7+ years experience (or equivalent advanced degree); one specialty certification required.
