About the Role
The Company is seeking a Contract General Counsel to lead its in-house legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic legal leadership and expert guidance to ensure the delivery of comprehensive legal services that support the organization's objectives and maintain its reputation. This role involves offering high-level, practical legal advice on complex matters, particularly in the areas of media law, including defamation, media regulation, and content and technology contracting. The General Counsel will also be a key partner to the Managing Director, Board, and Executive Leadership Team, and will mentor the legal team to enhance their role as strategic business partners. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must be highly experienced legal practitioners, with a minimum of 15 years' experience and a strong background in media law. The role requires a candidate with a deep understanding of the legal issues relevant to a media organization, including copyright and other publishing laws. The ideal candidate will have held a General Counsel or equivalent role in-house and will possess a strong appreciation for public interest journalism and the challenges of the digital age.
