Job Title: Special Education Paraprofessional / Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional / Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide direct instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students with special needs in a school-based environment. In this role, you will work closely with special education teachers, therapists, and administrative staff to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), assist with daily living activities, and create a safe, supportive learning environment that promotes student growth and independence. Responsibilities
- Direct Student Support: Provide one-on-one and classroom support to students with disabilities, assisting with academic engagement, instructional activities, and the development of communication, social, and life skills under the direction of certified staff.
- Personal Care & Daily Living: Assist students with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, toileting, mobility, and personal hygiene as needed.
- IEP & Behavioral Support: Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); utilize de-escalation strategies and manage student behavior to maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
- Safety & Monitoring: Ensure student safety across classroom settings, school transitions, and extracurricular activities.
- Progress Tracking & Documentation: Monitor, document, and report student progress, behavioral observations, and growth in accordance with district policies.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists, administrators, and parents to support student learning, participate in IEP meetings, and contribute to problem-solving teams.
- Educational Technology: Support the integration of learning technology and resources to enhance student critical thinking and collaboration.
- Professional Engagement: Participate in the school's professional learning community to deepen understanding of special education curriculum and assessment strategies.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- Certification: Passing score on a state-recognized paraprofessional assessment.
- Clearances: Must meet all state (e.g., Pennsylvania) background check and child clearance requirements.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with special needs preferred; school-based experience is highly desired.
- Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of special education practices and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Proficiency with learning technologies and educational tools.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
