Cook / Dietary Cook

Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Winchester, MA is seeking a dependable and experienced Cook / Dietary Cook to join our healthcare food service team. As a Cook, you will play an important role in preparing nutritious, appealing, and high-quality meals for our residents while following planned menus, recipes, dietary requirements, and food-safety standards.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for a Cook:

• Review and prepare meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes

• Prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting

• Follow special diets, therapeutic diets, portion requirements, and resident dietary needs as directed

• Assist with food preparation for special meals, parties, holidays, and resident events

• Ensure food is prepared, handled, stored, and served in accordance with food-safety standards

• Monitor food quality, taste, appearance, portions, and proper temperatures

• Maintain kitchen, food storage, and food preparation areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, infection-control, and departmental policies and procedures

• Assist with inventory, receiving, organizing, rotating, and storing food and dietary supplies

• Work collaboratively with the dietary team to ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule

• May perform other dietary and food service duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications for a Cook:

• Previous cooking or food service experience preferred

• Experience in a nursing home, skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, hospital, assisted living, or senior living environment is a plus

• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred

• ServSafe certification preferred

• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures

• Ability to follow menus, recipes, and special dietary instructions

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Ability to comply with departmental safety policies and procedures

• Ability to perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements of the position
