Operating in a collaborative environment, you will provide invaluable support to a large government contract. You will provide hands-on technical laboratory support with a focus on sample processing, analytical execution, equipment maintenance, and materials management. In this role you will be expected to work efficiently in a fast-paced operational environment, supporting laboratory throughput while ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and safety practices. You will play a key role in supporting the daily laboratory functions by preparing materials, operating and maintaining equipment, tracking supplies, and supporting accurate and timely completion of analytical tasks.This position offers an exhilarating opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team committed to advancing knowledge and solving our customer's toughest challenges.This full-time position is contingent upon contract award and will be in Washington DC.ResponsibilitiesSupport execution of laboratory experiments and sample analysis rooted in chemistry and biological sciences.Independently perform routine sample extraction and analysis experiments in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and/or work instructions with guidance from senior scientistsOperate lab equipment to include pipetting devices, balances, pH meters, microscopes, centrifuges, plate readers, etc.Document experimental data clearly and consistently. Compile data and perform first line technical and quality control review prior to submission to senior scientist for final reviewActively communicate progress and results to senior scientists and report data that does not meet acceptance criteriaActively participate in maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities within structured quality frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001:2015 or 21 CFR Part 58 GLP)Follow established safety and security guidelinesMaintain laboratory supply stocks and critical reagents anticipating needs and use rates so that sample throughput is not compromised.Train inexperienced staff in sample analysis and extraction methodsContribute to writing of standard operating proceduresSome domestic travel may be required.Key QualificationsHigh School diploma and 9 years laboratory experience focused on sample preparation and analysis using scientific methods in biology and/or chemistry.Ability and willingness to work in biological safety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratoriesGood oral and written communication skillsAbility to understand and follow written proceduresThe ability to work in a team environmentSufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 25 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materialsSelf-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing prioritiesSole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employmentPreferred QualificationsExperience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, ISO17025, or 21 CFR Part 58 GLP)Interest and ability to learn and apply new skills in multiple subject areasCurrent or previously held security clearanceSalary RangeBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly range for this role is $22.50 - $30.90 per hour, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
