AI Lead Software Engineer - Remote

Overview AI Lead Engineer responsible for shaping and executing the AI vision at Commerce. The role involves leading the design and implementation of AI-based product solutions, collaborating with senior Product and Engineering leaders, and driving strategic initiatives across the organization. Responsibilities Interface with team members across multiple domains, executives, and stakeholders to provide context, direction setting, and technical guidance. Collaborate to contribute to and/or author high‑level designs and partner with key leaders to ensure strategic alignment. Serve as lead engineer for major initiatives, working across teams to develop and implement low‑level designs. Facilitate quick‑turnaround solutions to address urgent business needs, balancing delivery speed, scalability, and reliability. Collaborate with Product & Engineering leadership to shape the AI strategy. Assess technology options to establish fit for purpose and optimize ROI for the business. Build scalable, secure, cost‑effective, and high‑performance solutions at very large scale. Possess deep experience with RAG pipelines, MCP, AI agents, multimodal LLMs, prompt orchestration, LLM telemetry, and inspection. Upskill the organization by evangelizing technologies and identifying opportunities for experimentation and education. Qualifications 5+ years of coding experience in one or more server‑side languages (Python, Go, Scala, etc.). Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems; Master’s preferred. Strong understanding of front‑end frameworks/languages (React, TypeScript, JavaScript, etc.). Experience building consumer‑facing, agentic product solutions with LLMs and GenAI technologies. Experience with product data pipelines and familiarity with e‑commerce taxonomies and schemas is highly preferred. Familiarity with modern AI infrastructure (vector databases, model orchestration tools, inference frameworks, cloud‑native ML workflows). Hands‑on technical leadership experience with cross‑functional teams—engineering, product, design, data science. Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), API architecture, and modern MLOps practices. Solid experience with data storage solutions, both backend (SQL, NoSQL) and frontend (e.g., local storage). Knowledge of Angular, React, and similar front‑end frameworks. Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered a candidate. Compensation Pay Transparency Range: $165,000.00 – $290,000.00. The national base salary range for this role is posted above. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographical location, internal equity, and may include variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
