Sheetmetal Mechanic

Work a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify, repair and reassemble complex aircraft metal items & systems, including bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, flaps, wings, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets and internal and external fuel tanks.

Candidate must be intimately familiar with all associate pneumatic and power riveting tools and sheet metal tools. Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal system and items. Develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development. Fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals, e.g., stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, aluminum etc. Replace sections and patch old systems. Cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items that have numerous irregular angles, planes and curves with varying pitch and circumference. Use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening systems, riveted or welded joints. Drill or punch holes. Assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking and spot welding. User precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points and sine bars. Other Duties as Assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalent. A&P license not required but a plus. Prefer experience from military fixed wing and/or rotor community, including, but not limited to: F/A-18, P-8, F-5, T-6,T-44,H-60 variants or civilian heavy structures sheet metal/fastener R&R background. Five (5) years relevant experience in heavy structures or military aviation background preferred. Military installation DEPOT level maintenance experience and/or equivalent major MRO facility preferred. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Must be familiar with U.S. Military aviation maintenance criteria and specifications. Must be able to manufacture, fabricate, develop, install and repair a variety of items from a variety of metals including high strength steel, titanium, aluminum and numerous alloys, fiberglass and honeycomb/composite skins. Up to 25% travel may be required. Must be a US Citizen. Must be able to pass a National Agency background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities. May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools. Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
