Mechanic B - Valley Metro Tempe

Qualifications Three (3) years progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience. ASE Transit Certificate preferred (H4, H5, H8). Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred. High school diploma or GED and a valid Arizona CDL with Passenger endorsement. Experience with diagnostic computer equipment and software. Understanding of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling systems, engines, lighting, gauges, controls, safety equipment, fire suppression, sensitive edges, tires and transmissions. Hands‑on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Skills Safety‑first attitude. Ability to repair sub‑components of all bus types. Proficiency in reading and following schematics. Customer‑focused with high professionalism and discretion. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and act with integrity. Detail‑oriented, resourceful, and able to work independently. Strong time‑management and organizational skills. Sound judgment; strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities. Flexibility to work in a 24/7 environment. Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all types of coaches following specific check lists. Fill out work orders specifying parts and labor. Corrective Maintenance Inspect and verify problems on coaches using diagnostic equipment. Clean, repair and replace coach equipment as required. Test coaches for proper working order, including road‑driving tests. Utilize computer diagnostic tools such as Cummins Insite, Allison Prognostics, electrical schematics, ladder logic, VANSCO and DINEX control systems. Review repair and part manuals for assistance with minor to major repairs. Perform in‑house and road‑call repairs using hand, power, pneumatic and precision tools. Maintain detailed and timely paperwork and documentation for repairs and installations. Teamwork, Workplace Upkeep, and Safety Perform physical activities, including working on top of coaches, lifting up to 75 pounds, standing for extended periods, walking, and climbing. Aptitude to learn and stay current with new technologies. Share knowledge to help others understand vehicles within the company. Work with multiple parties to resolve issues. Assist other mechanics with repair work and provide guidance when needed. Provide on‑the‑job instruction to Mechanics B and C regarding diagnosis and operational theory. Inspect, review, and evaluate work performance. Adhere strictly to Keolis and client policies, including PPE usage. Focus on safety, leading by example with proper PPE and best practices. Maintain cleanliness standards and general housekeeping. Perform other duties as assigned by management and supervisors. Physical Demands & Work Environment Long periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting, balancing, twisting and squatting. Exposure to extreme heat and cold. Exposure to loud noises, fumes, and airborne particles. Potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop. Work may involve personal computers, diagnostic software and heavy machinery.
