The Director of Philanthropic Impact plays an operational, programmatic, and strategic role in advancing the organization’s mission to foster impactful, values-driven philanthropy. Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropic Impact, this role provides leadership across learning programs, Collaborative Funds donor philanthropic advisement, and cross-sector partnerships, while overseeing complex projects from design through execution. The Director will lead a portfolio of philanthropic learning and engagement efforts, including InSolidarity, a signature body of work focused on values-based leadership, equity, and deepening relationships across leaders in Greater Washington. In this role, the Director will partner with well-known public institutional partners to design and run a series of events and cohorts, stewarding both the strategic vision and operational execution of this work as agreed to in the partnership. This position also oversees the Foundation’s learning engagement programming, including vendor selection, program design, and project management, and provides critical operational and strategic support to donor-initiative Collaborative Funds and the Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking processes. This role is ideal for a highly organized, relationship-oriented leader who brings strong project management skills, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to translate strategy into high-quality execution in a dynamic nonprofit environment. Key Responsibilities Program Strategy, Leadership & Project Management Provide strategic and operational leadership for key philanthropic impact initiatives, learning programs, and events. Lead end-to-end planning and execution of complex, multi-stakeholder projects, including timelines, workplans, deliverables, budgets, and evaluation. Serve as a thought partner to the Senior Director and Executive Director on program strategy, innovation, and continuous improvement. Track and report on progress toward program goals, outcomes, and performance indicators; use data and insights to inform decision-making. Draft high-quality internal briefs, project updates, and recommendations for senior leadership. InSolidarity & Strategic Partnerships Lead implementation of InSolidarity, an initiative to fight hate and extremism in all forms by strengthening community and relationships across Greater Washington’s religious, racial, and ethnic groups Serve as the primary operational and programmatic liaison with community partners co-designing and managing a series of learning events and cohorts. Shape cohort design with partners and oversee facilitator engagement, participant experience, logistics, and evaluation. Cultivate strong external relationships to support the sustainability, visibility, and impact of InSolidarity programming. Support Executive Director with the communications strategy, outreach, and development of messaging to key stakeholders. Learning Engagement Programs Lead Foundation’s learning engagement programming for donors, grantee partners, and community leaders aligned with Foundation’s brand pillars. Resourcing program management structures, learning frameworks, and implementation plans aligned with organizational strategy. Coordinate and project manage all aspects of learning engagements, including schedules, deliverables, and stakeholder communications. Lead RFP processes for facilitators and external providers, including scoping needs, drafting RFPs, managing timelines, and facilitating selection. Vet, select, and manage external providers, facilitators, and consultants; oversee contracts, deliverables, and performance. Ensure learning programs reflect best practices in adult learning, equity-centered facilitation, and values-driven philanthropy. Grantmaking Support Provide operational and programmatic support for grantmaking efforts, including grants directly managed by the Jewish Community Foundation. Support grant cycles through coordination, tracking, documentation, and alignment with programmatic priorities in partnership with the Community Impact Team. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure grantmaking processes are efficient, transparent, and aligned with values and strategy. Support the operations of collaborative funds and impact projects with Federation through research and vetting of grantee partners, with internal and external stakeholders. Research & Philanthropic Advisement Support Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to support donor education and philanthropic advising (e.g., landscape scans, issue briefs). Facilitate donor learning tables as needed to support individual families or collaborative funds Develop philanthropic resources, case studies, and learning tools for advising and open-source use. Monitor trends in Jewish philanthropy, social impact, and equity and inclusion to inform program content and strategic direction. Team Operations, Systems & Organizational Leadership Strengthen team systems for project tracking, knowledge management, and cross-functional collaboration. Support team retreats, learning agendas, and strategic planning processes. Collaborate closely with Finance, Impact, Financial Resource Development, and Communications’ teams on cross-departmental initiatives. Independently manage multiple high-priority projects with minimal supervision. Evaluate and optimize processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and staff experience. Contribute to organizational learning culture through insight-sharing, documentation, and modeling learning behaviors. Qualifications & Experience Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, education, or related field strongly preferred. 7–10+ years of relevant professional experience in philanthropy, grantmaking, program management, learning and engagement, facilitation and research, or Jewish nonprofits preferred. Experience working in or with philanthropic organizations, family foundations, or Jewish communal institutions preferred. Demonstrated success leading complex programs and partnerships with multiple stakeholders. Advanced project and program management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Strong strategic thinking paired with the ability to execute operationally. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with donors, partners, facilitators, and colleagues. Demonstrated competency integrating inclusion and equity principles into program design, facilitation, and partnerships. Comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Proficiency in office productivity and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Share Point, Excel, PowerPoint, ClickUp). Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams. Intellectual curiosity and commitment to learning about Jewish philanthropic values and practices.
