Wastewater Operator

Job Summary: Ensuring all wastewater treatment plant systems are properly controlled to run efficiently.

Essential Functions: The successful candidate's duties will include, but not be limited to, performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical work related to the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facilities and systems.

Qualifications: Minimum requirement is high school graduation; college level course work in biology, chemistry, hydraulics, mechanics, etc is desired. A minimum of 1-2 years experience with water/wastewater related equipment, i.e. pumps, valves, blowers, mechanics, control systems, etc. A strong desire to learn the wastewater treatment field is required. Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment. Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality. Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed. Ability to read and write instructions in English. Knowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals. Must be able to work weekends, and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements: Frequently (51-75%) use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Occasionally (25-50%) walk, lift and/or move 26 to 60 lbs. Rarely (1-25%) stand, sit, talk or hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). May be exposed to noise levels in which hearing protection will be needed.
