Deputy Clerk I - Tax Assessor/Collector - Lewisville

The Deputy Clerk I performs specialized clerical, administrative, and secretarial work in an assigned department.

Examples of duties include:

• Answering telephone and greeting visitors; providing information or referring inquiries to appropriate personnel; routing incoming calls and recording messages; responding to emails and faxes as necessary.
• Utilizing computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and file maintenance programs to enter, store, and/or retrieve information; maintaining pertinent files and records; scanning and copying documents as necessary; ensuring files are complete and accurate.
• Processing incoming and outgoing mail, including preparing photocopies and collating materials; distributing mail to appropriate department or employee.
• Balancing the cash drawer daily and preparing related reports on a daily and weekly basis.
• Overseeing the registration and title of motor vehicles; processing renewals of registration; creating daily reports.
• Collecting property taxes; posting property taxes accurately as needed.
• Assisting in the distribution of disability placards, license plates, and specialty license plates.
• Handling phone calls from the public, processing renewal, and title mail, and accepting payments from the public including tax payments, vehicle inventory tax, beer and wine renewals, and tax certificates.
• Calculating and adjusting accounts for court orders.
• Processing dealer work for the titling of cars sold and leased.
• Overseeing clerical duties related to the collection of ad valorem and tax payments, maintaining inventory, issuing temporary tags, and issuing handicap placards. Performing other related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or GED and minimum of one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
• Completion of some college-level coursework is preferred.
• Specific certifications related to the area of assignment may be required for this position.
