Job Description

The SMT Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used in the production of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role supports electronic manufacturing operations by setting up machines, loading components, completing quality checks, and ensuring circuit boards are produced according to specifications. The position requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

• Operate SMT production equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, conveyors, and reflow ovens
• Load electronic components and feeders according to production schedules and work instructions
• Monitor machine performance and make minor adjustments as needed
• Perform first article, in-process, and final quality inspections on circuit boards
• Identify component placement issues, solder defects, and machine-related problems
• Read and follow assembly documentation, work instructions, and production schedules
• Use microscopes and magnification equipment to inspect circuit boards and components
• Perform basic troubleshooting and assist with machine changeovers and setup activities
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following safety and quality standards

Essential Skills

• 6+ months of SMT, electronics manufacturing, machine operating, or production experience
• Experience operating SMT equipment or other automated manufacturing equipment
• Ability to identify electronic components and circuit board defects
• Experience performing quality inspections in a manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with electronic assembly processes and PCB manufacturing
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and production documentation
• Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills
• Experience using microscopes, measuring devices, or magnification tools preferred

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with SMT setup, feeder loading, and machine changeovers
• Familiarity with pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and screen printers
• Previous electronics manufacturing experience preferred
• IPC standards experience is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain production quality standards
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment

Work in a clean, climate-controlled electronics manufacturing facility with modern SMT production lines. Employees work with automated assembly equipment, electronic components, circuit boards, microscopes, and quality inspection tools in a comfortable and organized environment.
Available Shifts

1st Shift

• 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM

2nd Shift

• 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Ideal candidates will have experience operating SMT equipment, loading feeders, performing machine setups, monitoring production, and conducting quality inspections on circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burnsville, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
