Position Summary: At GreenFields, the Director of Nursing Services plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care to our residents. This position provides direction and oversight to the nursing department, supports and develops nursing staff, establishes standards of nursing practice, and works closely with administration, physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members. The ideal candidate is an experienced nursing leader who is organized, approachable, compassionate, and confident in making decisions while maintaining a strong commitment to resident-centered care and regulatory compliance. Establish, maintain, and interpret standards of nursing practice consistent with professional standards and applicable State and Federal regulations. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing plans of care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team. Ensure that each resident receives appropriate nursing assessment and that an individualized nursing care plan is developed and maintained. Ensure appropriate nursing coverage and staffing levels based on resident needs and regulatory requirements. Assist with staffing and scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage for all shifts. Assign nursing duties consistent with each employee’s education, experience, preparation, and licensure. Interview, select, orient, supervise, and evaluate licensed and registered nursing staff. Complete probationary and annual performance evaluations of nursing department employees in a timely manner. Provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary recommendations when appropriate. Support staff development and encourage employees to reach their full potential. Educate and direct staff regarding the timely reporting of suspected resident abuse and suspected crimes as required by applicable laws and regulations. Investigate reported allegations of abuse and report findings to administration and the appropriate regulatory agencies. Promote and enforce patient-centered care practices and facility policies related to resident safety and services. Ensure staff are educated regarding missing resident searches, no-pass zones, responding to alarms, end-of-life care, and resident or visitor complaints and concerns. Participate in facility emergency preparedness and disaster planning. Review accident and incident reports and take appropriate follow-up action. Review medication and treatment errors and coordinate appropriate corrective actions. Make regular rounds throughout nursing units to evaluate the quality and delivery of resident care. Ensure appropriate nursing discharge and transfer planning, including communication of continuing nursing care needs. Serve as a consultant, resource, advisor, and final authority to nursing supervisors regarding quality resident care and nursing department management. Develop, maintain, and annually review nursing service objectives, policies, procedures, standards, organizational charts, and staffing plans. Review and revise departmental policies annually or as needed. Maintain effective communication with administration and represent the nursing department in administrative and policy matters. Participate in Quality Assurance, interdisciplinary care planning, safety, pharmaceutical services,nursing, and other applicable committees and meetings. Promote positive employee recognition and morale through participation in the People First Program. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with allied health and ancillary departments to support multidisciplinary resident care. Maintain availability to meet with residents and family members and address concerns appropriately. Ensure adherence to facility policies regarding cell phone use, social networking, computer security, and cybersecurity. Participate in continuing education and maintain current nursing knowledge, skills, and professional practices. Maintain required professional certifications, licensure, and continuing education. Share on-call responsibilities with Assistant Director of Nursing. Serve as Acting Administrator in the absence of the Administrator and exercise appropriate administrative authority. Adhere to facility dress code, time and attendance, safety, and infection prevention policies. Promote and ensure the safety, security, dignity, and well-being of all residents. Perform other duties as assigned by administration that support the coordination and effective operation of the nursing services department. Qualifications Key Requirements Other: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to make sound clinical and administrative decisions within established guidelines. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and professionally with staff, residents, family members, visitors, physicians, government agencies, and the general public. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle challenging situations and individuals. Must be able to communicate effectively with nursing staff, department supervisors, administration, physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Must maintain a positive rapport with residents and their families. Must possess strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to organize staff, manage time and resources effectively, and support the professional development of nursing employees. Must be self-motivated, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities, interruptions, and changing circumstances. Must demonstrate a strong commitment to resident-centered care, quality improvement, safety, and regulatory compliance. Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to all applicable facility policies, procedures, State and Federal regulations, and professional standards of nursing practice. Must participate in facility committees, meetings, quality assurance activities, and interdisciplinary care planning as required. Must attend and participate in continuing education programs and mandatory in-services. Must maintain current professional licensure and required certifications. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Physical and Sensory Requirements: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for the majority of the work shift. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to respond appropriately and safely to emergency situations. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and stressful situations. Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, employees, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Must submit to and pass required annual health examinations and PPD skin testing. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility. Must be able to work in a well-lit and well-ventilated office and throughout the facility as required. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited institution preferred. A Registered Nurse graduate of an accredited alternate program with appropriate experience may be considered. Must be a Registered Nurse with current New York State licensure. Minimum of two years of supervisory nursing experience required. Advanced training in nursing management and gerontology preferred. IV experience preferred. Must be CPR or BLS certified. Must be willing and able to work full time. Strong clinical, leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately and professionally with residents, families, staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to lead, organize, and develop nursing staff while promoting teamwork, accountability, and positive employee morale. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with various personalities and exhibit maturity, professionalism, and sound judgment. Ability to manage changing priorities and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Demonstrated commitment to providing safe, high-quality, resident-centered nursing care.
