Medication AssistantAssists with medications and maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and the standards of HRA.Essential Functions:Checks each of the six (6) rights of medication administration three (3) different times: (1) When the medication is taken out of the med cart or cabinet; (2) Immediately before assisting with the medication; (3) Immediately after assisting with the medication.Assists with medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR)Documents clearly and accurately on the MOR after a medication is taken or given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, in accordance with policyMaintains a neat, clean, organized med cart/cabinet and restocks as neededProvides residents with any treatments required as part of their individual service planPromotes and protects the rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatmentAnswers and responds immediately to resident callsRespects the resident's right to refuse medication and/or treatmentExplains to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with or administering the medicationObserves the resident for any adverse reaction to the medication and reports to the DRC and/or supervisor immediatelyReports any and all medication errors honestly and immediatelySeeks assistance and advice from supervisor immediately if there are any doubts or questions when assisting with or administering medications or treatmentsResponds to on-the-job injuries in accordance with policyNotifies supervisor of any concerns or questions presented by the resident's family member(s)Adheres to universal precautions and all other infection control guidelinesDisposes infectious and/or potentially infectious waste according to OSHA regulationsDemonstrates respectful behavior in all interactions with residents, families, staff and other visitors to the communityPerforms specific work duties as assigned by supervisorDemonstrates knowledge of emergency proceduresMeets or exceeds health standards for appearance, sanitation and hygieneThe ability to work in a safe and alert mannerThe ability to take ownership for associate's safety and the safety of the residentsMust disclose any medication that might impair associate's ability to perform the job safely or competently.Non-Essential Functions:Leads by example exhibiting the CORE Values through servant leadershipEncourages teamwork and promotes company philosophyAttends required community meetings and participates Life Enrichment activities when ableCompletes all required courses in adherence with HRA UniversityIs prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basisBecomes familiar and understands how to report a missing person using the Safe Return program or equivalentAll associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residentsRequirements:Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent with state specific training required for the positionMust obtain valid Continuing Education credits as required by the state (if applicable)Minimum of one (1) year experienceExperience in a long-care community and/or geriatric nursing preferredExperience in emergency care and first-aid preferredGood working knowledge of Medication Observation Record (MOR)Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contactsClerical and typing skills including typing, data entry, filing, etc. requiredExperience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software preferredKnowledge and understanding of medical terminology preferredAble to make independent decisionsMust possess a passion to work with and around senior citizensBackground Screening Requirement:In all Florida Companies, this position requires a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
