Bicultural Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) / Mental Health Specialist - Somali-Speaking Clinician Location: Portland, OR Position: Regular Part‑Time (0.60 FTE), 24 hrs per week. Salary Range: $26.09–$35.28 per hour. Position Overview The Bicultural Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) works closely with psychiatrists in the Intercultural Psychiatric Program (IPP) to provide culturally sensitive mental health services, including trauma‑informed care, individual and group therapy, case management, and medication management for Somali‑speaking patients and others in IPP. Responsibilities The QMHA: Provides clinical case management and supports Somali‑speaking psychiatric outpatient patients in a trauma‑informed framework. Collaborates with psychiatrists and other team members to deliver individual and group services and coordinate care. Documents clinical progress and completes required reports in electronic format. Delivers services as assigned by the supervisor to further university missions in teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. Required Qualifications Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience (≥3 years). Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, understand mental health terminology, and apply principles of assessment, treatment, and service planning. Basic word‑processing skills and ability to complete electronic documentation. Strong patient‑service orientation and interpersonal skills suitable for a fast‑paced, multicultural outpatient setting. Must be registered as a QMHA with the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) or hold QMHA‑Basic Certification (QMHA‑I). Registered candidates must meet OAR 309‑019‑0125 standards for initial qualification. QMHA‑R candidates must register prior to employment and become fully certified within two years. Preferred Qualifications 2–3 years of experience as a Bicultural Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Experience working with immigrants and refugees in a clinical setting.
