Quality Inspector

This role is for an experienced Quality Inspector to support ongoing turbine generator rehabilitation and plant construction activities. This role serves as an embedded field resource during off-hours operations, acting as the on-site “eyes and ears” for Engineering, Project Services, and Inspection teams to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved work packages, quality standards, and project specifications. This position is intended to supplement the existing inspection team during continuous operations, outage activities, high-workload periods, and extended field machining operations. The role may initially focus on targeted second-shift or weekend coverage but could evolve into a longer-term night shift assignment supporting generator rehabilitation projects lasting 13–16 months. Unlike a traditional passive inspection role, this position requires a hands-on field presence with active coordination between contractors, foremen, engineering, and plant personnel. The inspector will be expected to influence work execution in real time, hold contractors accountable to specifications and approved work packages, and provide structured communication between shifts and stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings a broad industrial inspection background with experience across mechanical systems, electrical systems, and controls/instrumentation within power generation, hydroelectric, utility, heavy industrial, or similar environments. Key Responsibilities Pre-Shift Planning & Daily Coordination Review prior shift reports, foreman reports, night shift documentation, and inspection notes before field activities begin Review shift plans, critical path schedules, priorities, and active work packages to establish daily inspection focus Prepare inspection plans and daily priorities based on project milestones, operational risk, and ongoing field activities Verify contractor readiness, material availability, permits, documentation, and field conditions before work execution Participate in coordination meetings and daily stand-up meetings with Engineering, Contract Labor, Project Services, and field leadership Field Oversight & Contractor Coordination Provide active field oversight during night shift, weekend, and off-hours operations Work directly with foremen and field crews to confirm: Scope of work Daily priorities Readiness to proceed Crew understanding and skill alignment Ensure work is executed in accordance with: Approved work packages Engineering drawings and specifications Quality standards Safety requirements Labor and construction requirements Hold contractors accountable to specifications and project expectations during execution Identify deviations, deficiencies, quality concerns, or procedural non-conformance issues in real time and elevate appropriately Serve as an embedded field representative for inspection and engineering teams during off-hours operations Inspection & Quality Assurance Observe and document construction, machining, installation, repair, testing, and rehabilitation activities related to turbine generator projects and plant systems Verify workmanship, procedures, tolerances, and installation practices align with approved project requirements Continue work package review and validate field execution against approved scope throughout the shift Support overall QA/QC and compliance objectives for rehabilitation and modernization projects Assist in maintaining continuous inspection coverage during 24/7 operations and outage schedules Reporting, Closeout & Shift Turnover Close out completed work packages and inspection activities Review field data, inspection records, IR documentation, and photos for completeness and accuracy Document work progress, contractor performance, quality concerns, and field observations Provide structured feedback and reporting back to Engineering, Project Services, inspectors, and incoming shifts Write detailed daily inspection reports and tie-in activity summaries Support issue tracking, resolution follow-up, and continuity between day and night operations Participate in shift turnover discussions and communicate emerging risks, unresolved concerns, and next-shift priorities Standard Daily Workflow Expectations The inspector will be expected to operate within a structured daily workflow that supports consistent inspection coverage, early risk identification, and clear communication between field operations, Engineering, Contract Labor, and Project Services. Typical activities include: Review night shift work reports, foreman reports, and prior inspection notes Verify inspection records, data, and field photos from site supervision Review shift plan, critical path activities, and project priorities Prepare inspection plan and daily work priorities Review active work packages for coordination meetings Participate in stand-up and coordination meetings Continue work package review and field verification activities throughout the shift Meet with foremen to confirm established plans and priorities Meet with field crews to verify understanding, readiness, and skill alignment Close completed work packages and inspection activities Review data and provide feedback to Engineering and project leadership Complete daily reporting and tie-in documentation for shift turnover continuity Required Qualifications 5+ years of industrial inspection, construction inspection, QA/QC, field engineering support, or related experience Experience supporting power generation, hydroelectric, utility, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or large capital construction environments Broad technical understanding across: Mechanical systems Electrical systems Controls/instrumentation systems Ability to read and interpret: Technical specifications Work packages Construction and outage documentation Experience coordinating directly with contractors, foremen, and field crews in active industrial environments Ability to independently manage field priorities during off-hours operations Strong communication, documentation, and field coordination skills Ability to identify non-conformance issues and drive resolution in real time Comfortable working night shift, overtime, and extended project schedules as needed Preferred Qualifications Hydroelectric or turbine generator rehabilitation project experience Utility outage or large-scale capital project experience Experience in embedded field inspection or owner’s representative roles QA/QC certifications or related technical certifications Familiarity with welding, machining, rotating equipment, or industrial maintenance inspections OSHA or utility safety certifications Prior experience supporting 24/7 construction or outage operations Primarily based on-site at the Priest Rapids facility Night shift coverage is the primary need Schedule will generally align with labor contract work schedules, including overtime during peak project activities Potential for weekend and extended-hour coverage during continuous operations #J-18808-Ljbffr CorSource
