Job Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NM Tech) performs nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures under a Radiologist's supervision. These procedures are conducted for ambulatory and hospital patients, based on physician or licensed provider requests for diagnosing disease and injury, following established protocols. Essential Functions Of The Role Quality Assurance: Performs high-quality nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures under exam protocol, evaluates imaging quality, maintains equipment, performs quality control, and works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal capability. Caring Practices: Communicates with patients to identify service needs, ensures correct exam, establishes rapport, instructs them and their families, follows HIPAA, and assesses ability to tolerate exam. Patient Safety: Explains procedures, protects patients and team by following safety requirements, infection‑control protocols, positions patient, uses aseptic techniques, and maintains hand hygiene. Radiation Safety: Safeguards all parties by following radiation safety rules, verifies drugs, screens pregnancy, administers radiopharmaceuticals per protocol, educates patients on safety, and follows disposal guidelines. Collaboration: Reports issues, assists inventory and ordering radiopharmaceuticals, works with nursing, medical staff, Radiologists, and ensures accurate image transfer to BSWH PACS for clinical review. Key Success Factors Observe changes in medical conditions, communicate to nursing, physicians, emergency teams; administer first aid. Maintain current knowledge, education, and skills for caring for newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients. Provide services timely, accurately, cost‑efficiently, complying with system and regulatory standards. Perform tasks autonomously without routine oversight. Stay calm during stress, resolve issues. Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service; review satisfaction scores and develop plans. Serve as trainer for new team members and students from BSW approved programs. Adhere to policies, procedures, and workflows (PACS, EMR, image exchange, modality worklist, record management, Biomedical services). General computer skills (Microsoft Office, information security, electronic medical documentation, email). Take calls if required. Education Graduate of an Accredited Program Certification / License / Registration ARRT‑N Nuclear Medicine Tech (ARRT‑N), Cert Nuclear Med Tech (CNMT): Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine and by the NMTCB as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
