POSITION PURPOSE:The Emergency Department Technician/Ambulance Driver supports patient care operations within the Emergency Department and assists with ambulance operations, including driving responsibilities and participation in the call rotation. This role functions as a member of the emergency response team and supports high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care across both hospital and pre-tertiary hospital settings.The position is responsible for assisting clinical staff in the Emergency Department, preparing patients and equipment, supporting ambulance readiness, and responding to ambulance transfers and emergency calls as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalentCurrent Nebraska driver’s license with good driving recordMust be 25 years of age or olderOne year driving experienceFamiliar with traffic regulations and location of city streetsAbility to drive at nightBasic Life Support (BLS) requiredHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredCurrent EMT certification preferredGENERAL REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Emergency Department ResponsibilitiesAssist nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care activities within scope of trainingObtain and document vital signsAssist with patient transport, transfers, and positioningPrepare treatment rooms and maintain cleanliness and stocking of suppliesAssist during emergency situations and trauma responsesClean and disinfect equipment according to infection prevention standardsSupport patient throughput and department flow2. Provides assistance to nursing staff as directed.Takes vital signs and records as necessary.Measures and records intake and output on patients when ordered to do so; including emesis, hemovac, suction canisters, T-tubes, voided urine and foley cath outputs.Collects specimens in proper containers with proper labels, as directed.Provides personal care for patients as necessary, including oral care, bathing, combing hair, etc…).Changes linens on patient’s beds.Gets patients out of bed and helps them to chair/wheelchair as needed.Ambulates patients as ordered, with walker or gait belt, if necessary.3. Ambulance ResponsibilitiesServe as ambulance driver for emergency and non-emergency transportsParticipate in scheduled ambulance call rotationRespond to after-hours call-ins within established response time expectationsAssist EMS staff within scope of certification/trainingComplete vehicle readiness checks and ensure ambulance cleanliness and stockingReport vehicle maintenance or equipment concerns promptlyAssist with stretcher operations and loading/unloading patients4. Call ResponsibilitiesParticipate equitably in the ambulance call scheduleRemain fit for duty and available during assigned call periodsRespond promptly during scheduled call coverageCoordinate with FCH team regarding schedule availability and changesMaintain compliance with all hospital policies related to call coverage5. Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.6. Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.7. Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program. Including but not limited to:The Compliance Policy.Completes all mandatory on-line training annually and as assigned.All department and organization-wide policies.Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.8.
