Technical Product Manager, Platform Engineering

Team Overview

The Platform Engineering team is a strategic engineering team focused on building and operating shared platform components that enable our application teams and investment teams to deliver software more efficiently and consistently, reduce duplication and improve engineering productivity. The team works closely with technical stakeholders to understand common needs, drive adoption of platform capabilities and ensure platform services are reliable, well-supported and aligned with the organizations’ broader engineering strategy.

Role Overview

The Technical Product Manager for Platform Engineering is responsible for maximizing the value, adoption, and service quality of our internal platform capabilities. Reporting to the Head of Platform Engineering, this role owns the shaping, maintenance, and communication of the integrated Platform Engineering roadmap. The Technical Product Manager translates the overall strategy and technical direction as set by the Head of Platform Engineering, together with stakeholder needs, operational priorities, risk, cost, dependencies and engineering capacity into a cohesive roadmap.

Working closely with application teams, investment team, engineering leads and other highly technical stakeholders, the Technical Product Manager will be responsible for understanding a diverse range of needs, assessing those needs against the capabilities of our platform offerings and providing recommendations for how they should be addressed within roadmap priorities. The role will oversee the service performance across the platform portfolio, ensuring that platform components are being adopted, service expectations are defined, operational results are transparent, and gaps are actively addressed.

This is a highly collaborative role. Engineering leads and subject-matter experts will often lead detailed technical discussions and remain responsible for architecture, implementation, and day-to-day service operation. You will ensure stakeholder engagement is effective, priorities and commitments are coordinated, and platform services operate at the required quality bar.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the shaping, maintenance, and communication of the integrated Platform Engineering roadmap, translating the strategic direction set by the Head of Platform Engineering into prioritized outcomes and initiatives.
• Balance stakeholder value, strategic alignment, engineering capacity, technical health, operational risk, dependencies, and cost. Bring material trade-offs and prioritization recommendations to the Head of Platform Engineering for decision.
• Develop a strong understanding of internal-stakeholder needs, workflows, and pain points, distinguishing broadly valuable platform opportunities from one-off requests.
• Ensure roadmap initiatives have clear customer or organizational outcomes, ownership, dependencies, sequencing, and measures of success.
• Define intended outcomes for platform investments and use adoption, service-performance, and customer-feedback data to inform priorities.
• Work closely with Technical PMO on project management, standards and coordination on large cross-team initiatives.
• Establish an effective stakeholder engagement model. Partner with engineering leads to prepare and conduct roadmap, capability, and technical discussions, ensuring consistent communication and clear follow-through.
• Coordinate initiatives spanning multiple Platform Engineering teams, maintaining visibility into dependencies, risks, decisions, and commitments while leaving technical execution with engineering leads.
• Define and maintain service expectations, including SLAs/SLOs, support models, ownership, and escalation paths.
• Maintain portfolio-level visibility into operational performance and service-level attainment. Establish consistent reporting and review processes, and work with engineering leads to identify gaps, track corrective actions, and escalate persistent or material issues. Engineering leads remain accountable for operating their services and meeting agreed SLAs/SLOs.
• Ensure reliability, resilience, security, compliance, lifecycle risk, cost, and operational readiness are appropriately reflected in product priorities.
• Provide leadership with clearly framed recommendations, including relevant evidence, options, trade-offs, and recommendations

• Leadership attention is focused on material strategic, investment, resource allocation, organizational, and risk decisions.

Qualifications

• Ability to operate credibly between highly technical engineering teams and their equally technical customers.

• At least 10 years of experience in technical product management, platform management, or a closely related role.
• Experience working with internal platforms, cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, production services, or technical products of similar complexity.
• Strong knowledge of product discovery, roadmap development, prioritization, adoption, and outcome measurement.
• Experience with service-management practices such as SLAs/SLOs, observability, incident management, operational readiness, resilience, and problem management.
• The ability to understand complex technical topics, ask effective questions, and facilitate decisions without needing to be the deepest technical expert.
• Strong judgment in balancing customer value, technical constraints, reliability, risk, cost, and delivery capacity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to structure complex discussions and present clear recommendations.
• A track record of influencing and driving results across teams without relying on direct authority.

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $290,000 per year.
