General Summary

The Surgical Technologist is a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and assisting during surgical procedures using sterile techniques and specialized equipment. You will anticipate the needs of the surgical team and maintain a safe, efficient environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical cases accurately using surgeon preference cards and appropriate instruments.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to support surgical procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and demonstrate dexterity in assisting the surgical team.
• Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols.
• Monitor and handle implantable devices with sterile technique and ensure proper function.
• Inspect and maintain surgical equipment and specialty devices.
• Work independently while accepting accountability and adapting to changes under pressure.
• Maintain organized, clean, and efficient workspaces to enhance patient safety.
• Perform delegated tasks under the direct supervision of the surgeon to uphold quality standards.

Education

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.

Experience

Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licenses

• Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is typical.
