Job TitleThe Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.In this role, you will support the fabrication, assembly, repair, and modification of tunnel boring machines and large-scale structures. Day-to-day work includes reading drawings and weld symbols, setting up welding equipment, completing welds in various positions, operating general shop equipment, and checking completed work against specifications. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable in a fast-paced production environment, takes pride in high-quality welds, and can work safely and efficiently on a night shift schedule.ResponsibilitiesWelding assembly and fabrication on large-scale structures and assembliesEffective communication with management/supervisors and engineering staffModification, repair, assembly, and installation of the tunnel boring machineChecking work after completion of each operation to ensure it meets drawing specificationsDriving general shop equipment (forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.)Setting up welding equipmentBasic QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDExperience reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications (weld symbols)Experience with overhead cranes and forkliftsAbility to weld in all positions and pass weld test (FCAW)Preferred Skills and ExperienceProficiency with various power tools such as drills, saws, and pneumatic die grindersBasic rigging skillsOSHA certificationWelding certificationsExperience with GMAW, GTAW, Stainless Steel, HardfacingFamiliarity with various metal types and thicknessesAbility to work in confined spaces and/or elevated heightsAdditional RequirementsAbility to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassistedAbility to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.Ability to work outdoors in heavy construction areas.This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.CultureWe're a team of dedicated, smart, and scrappy people.
