Make a real difference in the lives of elementary students with significant cognitive and communication needs. We're seeking a certified Special Education Teacher for an on-site contract assignment supporting a program facilitated as an ASD model. This role is ideal for professionals experienced with cognitive impairment and autism, especially those skilled in crisis management and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Your work will center on building supportive, individualized environments for students facing challenges in self-regulation and mental health, with a collaborative team approach.

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan CI (Cognitive Impairment) certification required
• Strong experience working with students on the autism spectrum
• Background in crisis management and familiarity with AAC tools highly preferred
• Comfort supporting elementary-aged learners with complex behavioral and communication challenges
• Dedication to working onsite in a structured K-12 setting

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement individualized special education programs for students with cognitive impairments, functioning primarily within an ASD framework
• Use evidence-based strategies to support students' communication, academic, behavioral, and social development
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to create comprehensive supports for each student
• Contribute to progress monitoring, crisis intervention, and family communication
• Maintain compliance with IDEA and Michigan educational standards
• Participate in professional development and regular team meetings

This is a full-time contract position from ASAP through June 11, 2027. The work schedule runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The assignment is located at the Education Technology Center in Lapeer, MI. The position is exclusively in-person.
