PLANNER I (5085)

Overview Purpose of this position is to participate, under supervision, in the acquisition, organization, and analysis of social, economic, geographic and engineering data. Employee receives training in Geographic Information System (GIS) and charts, graphs and maps, and special projects such as applications for grants pertaining to federal funds. Responsibilities Plan, research, zone and review subdivisions; review development; conduct public hearing reports and presentations. Data entry, records management and maintenance. GIS application and other assigned tasks. Assist in researching and preparing technical zoning and subdivision reports. Assist in researching and preparing ordinance changes and revisions, historical research, and recommendations. Analyze and evaluate data required in the development of parish and regional comprehensive and strategic plans. Perform basic statistical and GIS analyses. Review land use applications, architectural drawings, and engineering blueprints to ensure compliance with all applicable development regulatory requirements. Position requires driving a personal vehicle; possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance. Business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis (preferred). Qualifications Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies or City, Urban, Regional, or Community Planning. Possession of an accredited Bachelor’s degree (in any field of study); plus either:
- A) Successful completion of at least twelve (12) credit hours of graduate-level coursework from an accredited college/university in Urban Studies or City, Urban, Regional, or Community Planning.
- B) Significant (approx. one year), paid experience assisting with urban design, planning/zoning research and records management, land-use/development regulation, or closely related city planning or municipal code enforcement/construction permitting.
