Natural Resources Section Manager - Environmental Services (Chicago)

Description Burns & McDonnell’s regional Environmental Services group in Chicago is seeking a Natural Resources Section Manager to work with Natural and Cultural Resources Department Manager in providing direction, leadership, and technical guidance to assistant and staff level Employee-Owners within the natural resources discipline. Areas of responsibility include general roles supporting the overall Natural and Cultural Resources Department to successfully grow the department, facilitate staff development, hire new staff, and manage work assignments. Additional duties include the following: Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for Assistant and Staff Level Natural Resources Section personnel. Support or lead portions of Department meetings and Section meetings. Assign work and review performance to facilitate the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Monitor and maintain staffing levels to meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals. Conducting performance reviews and career development plans for the assistant and staff Employee Owners within the Natural Resources Section. Assist the Department Manager with recruiting, development, training, and retention of staff. Interpret policies, procedures, and goals of organization to staff. Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Work with the Department Manager to define objectives and requirements, organizing projects and developing standards and guidelines for the Natural Resources Section. Advance and develop Department tools, processes and workflows to increase efficiency in both office and field work. Assist with and lead proposal and cost estimating efforts for natural resources projects. Assist the Department Manager and Technical Service Area leader in setting quality review assignments and performing quality reviews. Perform project management responsibilities for projects. Assisting staff with project setup, coordinating with the client/team, handling billing/invoicing, change orders, project closeout, etc. Attend and participate in Division and Department meetings. Conduct annual performance reviews, goal setting and interim performance feedback for assistant and staff level Employee Owners within the Natural Resources Section. Assist with staff planning, workload, and career development for assistant and staff level Employee Owners within the Natural Resources Section. Responsible for project and task management, performance of project work to maintain a high level of billability. Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a natural resources discipline from accredited program. Minimum 5 years related professional experience (10 years preferred) in natural resources project execution including leading teams in the field or office, coordinating staff, and/or project management. Proficiency in various types of permitting including permitting with the USACE, state waterbody and wetland permits, state delegated construction stormwater permitting, and state historic preservation offices. Proficiency in federal and state agency consultations as related to threatened and endangered species. Working knowledge of other construction related permits such as utility crossings, right-of-way, floodplain, and other county/municipal approvals. Ability to manage client expectations, provide strategic guidance and execute projects within scope schedule, and budget. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change. Proficiency with basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Compensation $100,000.00-250,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
