CNC Milling Setup MachinistThe CNC Milling Setup Machinist sets up and operates CNC milling machines to produce precision components to exact specifications. This role regulates key machining parameters, interprets blueprints and GD&T, performs first article inspections, and uses precision measuring tools to ensure consistent quality. The machinist troubleshoots machining issues, distinguishes between machine and tooling problems, and works within a structured manufacturing environment that supports aerospace, electronic, medical, and commercial applications.ResponsibilitiesSet up and run CNC milling machines, including Mikron, Doosan, and Fadal equipment, using Fanuc and Heidenhain controls.Regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and engagement of cut to achieve optimal performance and part quality.Utilize edge finders, indicators, and probes to accurately establish machine work offsets and part locations.Interpret and work from blueprints and GD&T specifications to produce parts that meet dimensional and geometric requirements.Apply optimal cutting techniques, speeds, and feeds based on material, tooling, and part geometry.Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and gages to perform precise measurements and verify that parts meet tolerance requirements.Conduct first article inspections to validate initial setups and ensure parts conform to all critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics.Identify and differentiate machine deviation issues from cutter or workholding problems, and take corrective actions to maintain process stability.Solve routine machining and setup problems and demonstrate advanced problem-solving ability when complex issues arise.Work with software and documentation related to CTQs and data collection to support quality and process control.Use job travelers, material status sheets, and systems such as Vantage and Epicor to follow routing, record progress, and maintain accurate production documentation.Support lean manufacturing and continuous on-time delivery practices by following established procedures and contributing to process improvements.Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and quality standards in the machining department.Essential SkillsMinimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC milling setup machinist or in a closely related CNC machining role.Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC mills, including Mikron, Doosan, and Fadal machines.Hands-on experience with Fanuc and Heidenhain CNC controls.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T principles.Demonstrated skill in regulating machining parameters such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut.Proficiency in using edge finders, indicators, and probes to establish accurate work offsets.Ability to determine optimal cutting techniques, speeds, and feeds for different materials and tooling.Advanced use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and gages.Experience performing first article inspections and documenting results.Ability to distinguish machine deviation from cutter or holding problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.Problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve routine issues and handle more complex machining challenges.Knowledge of CTQ (Critical to Quality) characteristics and related software or data collection processes.Experience working with job travelers, material status sheets, and manufacturing systems such as Vantage and Epicor.High School Diploma or equivalent education.Ability to work reliably on a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. shift.Additional Skills & QualificationsFamiliarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.Experience supporting production for aerospace, electronic, medical, or commercial components.Comfort working within ISO9001, AS9100, and NADCAP certified environments.Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision machined parts.Strong organizational skills for managing job travelers and material documentation.Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and support cross-functional workflows.Ability to adapt to updated tools, technologies, and training as the facility invests in new equipment.Reliability and consistency in meeting production and quality expectations.Why Work Here?Employees join a well-established precision manufacturing organization with over three decades of experience serving demanding industries such as aerospace, electronics, medical, and commercial markets.
