Position Overview:

The Buyer/Planner at MVP is responsible for both the procurement of materials and services and the production scheduling that keeps MVP's manufacturing operations running smoothly. This role blends the sourcing, supplier management, and purchase order execution of a Buyer with the scheduling, capacity planning, and production coordination of a Planner, ensuring the right materials and production plans are in place to meet customer and company timelines. The role requires close collaboration with Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, and Operations teams, with periodic on-site visits to the plant and suppliers.

Purchasing & Procurement Responsibilities:

• Prepare purchase orders with drawing and specification packets for suppliers and internal departments.

• Evaluate and action MRP exception messages and suggestions based on usage and replenishment records.

• Document, analyze, and compare pricing, specifications, and delivery dates to determine the best bid among potential suppliers.

• Communicate supplier requirements to internal stakeholders regarding cost changes and changes in availability (lead-time).

• Monitor and report on supplier on-time delivery performance.

• Track and report on late PO dollars to optimize procurement processes.

• Respond to expediting requests.

• Maintain purchasing files, spreadsheets, and reports.

Production Planning Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and adjust scheduling plans for production based on available resources, capacity, and demand.

• Plan, schedule, and produce work orders for assembled, fabricated, and machined parts.

• Monitor production processes, addressing potential bottlenecks and ensuring smooth workflow.

• Manage the ERP system after Engineering BOMs have been completed to create production plans for Engineer-to-Order projects.

• Monitor material supply flow and identify shortages or bottlenecks, working with other departments to resolve issues and offer alternative scheduling.

• Evaluate and report on production performance metrics, such as adherence to schedule and lead times.

• Organize, create, and maintain systems for information flow and records for each job.

• Regularly update ERP/MRP systems with current scheduling data, making adjustments as changes arise in production.

• Proactively identify challenges in the production schedule and work with relevant teams to develop contingency plans.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with Advanced Equipment Engineers, the Machine Shop, Fabrication Shop, and Advanced Equipment Assemblers, as well as Sales, Engineering, Production, Quality, and Logistics, to determine appropriate commitments and schedules and ensure the timely, efficient flow of materials and services.

• Assist the Operations Managers in developing long-term strategies for optimizing production flow and resource utilization.

• Develop strategies aimed at improving production efficiency, reducing lead times, and bolstering production responsiveness.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Supplier on-time delivery rate.

• Value of late PO dollars.

• Adherence to production schedule and lead times.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• 3+ years of experience in procurement, production planning/scheduling, or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.

• Intermediate computer skills required, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office Suite.

• Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (Epicor experience preferred).

• Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to sit or stand at a desk for 6-8 hours per day.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

• Other physical activity may include standing, climbing, grasping, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, walking upstairs, and reaching.
