• Openings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet teaching hospital, requiring strong ortho/neuro skills and prior travel experience.Details
• Position is based in a 500-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital
• Float pool covers all acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite
• Strong Ortho/Neuro-Stroke and Cardiac Telemetry experience required for this float pool
• Shifts may be split across two units within the same 12-hour shift (e.g., 8 hours on one unit, 4 hours on another), requiring strong time management skills
• Patient population includes orthopedic (total joint replacement, ortho trauma), neurological/stroke, cardiac (pre/post cath, post-MI, cardiac surgery), and endocrine patients
• Patient ratio is 1:4-5
• Schedule is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30)
• Every other weekend required; travelers are asked to remain flexible
• No on-call requirement
• Floating within the hospital is required
• Charting is done in Epic (required)
• 26-week contractRequirements
• Active WA RN license or Compact license; pending WA license may be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in MS/Tele or stepdown; candidates without Level I or Level II trauma experience in this specialty will not be considered
• At least one completed travel contract required; first-time travelers are not eligible
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; BSN is preferred
• Must pass a pass/fail telemetry proficiency exam (fill-in-the-blank format) at orientation
• Proficiency in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias required
• Experience with titration of insulin drips required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Two professional references required, both supervisory preferred
• COVID vaccination and booster required
• Prior UW staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 18 months before being eligibleAdditional Information
• Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring and emergency response, management of dysrhythmias, pre/post neurosurgical care, CVA care, peripheral nerve catheter management (high volume on ortho floors), and insulin drip titration
• RTO is not permitted during the first 2 weeks of the assignment; RTO should be kept to a minimum throughout
• Travelers may have 1 of 3 major holidays off but must work 2 holiday shifts (eve/day); Christmas RTO is not permitted
• Block scheduling is not available
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• Pre-start orientation modules are required (approximately 6-8 hours, completed prior to start date); WA state suicide prevention training may be required for those working with the MSL unit, adding approximately 6 hours
• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable; light blue scrubs are also available on the unit
• Travel pairs (two clinicians from the same agency placed together) are discouraged by the manager
