Registered Nurse Behavioral Health

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse at JDH Solnit South Hospital provides specialized professional nursing care with a focus on behavioral health and therapeutic nursing. The role involves independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care while collaborating with interdisciplinary treatment teams to support patients with complex psychiatric needs.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing and healthcare plans independently.
Provide nursing consultation within assigned specialty programs.
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including admission and discharge evaluations with continuing care plans.
Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare required reports.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accreditation standards in nursing services.
Manage and secure medications, including controlled substances.
Provide direct patient care and manage assigned caseloads.
Participate in individual, group, and family therapy sessions as appropriate.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in treatment planning and evaluation.
Engage in home visits and crisis intervention activities as needed.
Share clinical knowledge and best practices with team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Connecticut Registered Nurse license or qualifying multistate license.
Minimum of two years' experience as a Registered Nurse (Bachelor's degree in Nursing may substitute for one year).
Knowledge of nursing principles, medications, assessment, treatment planning, and behavioral health concepts.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience in a behavioral health hospital setting.
Experience serving youth with complex psychiatric profiles.

Special Considerations:

May be required to lift and restrain individuals.
Potential exposure to infectious diseases and challenging patient behaviors.
Orientation occurs during 1st shift hours only, despite the position being 2nd shift.
Previous rejections by JDH disqualify candidates from submission.

Scheduling:

40 hours per week with every other weekend schedule.
Second shift hours: 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM.
Potential for overtime.
12-week assignment starting October 19th with orientation during first shift hours.
