Maintenance Technician II

Overview Job Summary This entry level clerical position reports to the Accounting Manager and performs routine clerical work in the preparation, processing and maintenance of accounting data and records. NOTE Only Internal Employees of the City of Miramar can apply. Responsibilities Performs general bookkeeping/accounting work, which may include but is not limited to preparing weekly and monthly journal entries, maintaining petty cash funds, balancing monies and accounts, preparing bank deposits and related reconciliations, and receiving, receipting and posting various monies. May print and/or manually prepare checks and prepare register reports. Prepares and/or processes various documents, which may include but are not limited to purchase requisitions and orders, billing invoices, accounts payable and payroll documents, disbursement statements, check requests, quote sheets, vendor applications, fixed asset forms, etc. Prepares computer spreadsheets as required. Performs general clerical duties as required, including but not limited to typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering computer data, processing daily mail, answering the telephone, etc. Receives and responds to inquiries regarding financial / purchasing matters from City employees, vendors, banking institutions, etc. Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers and other City employees, vendors, and the general public. Operates a computer, printer, calculator, typewriter, fax machine, copier, telephone, decolator, burster, check signer, cash register, postage machine, etc. Qualifications Position Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Training and Experience Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in technical accounting/bookkeeping, with strong data entry skills, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Vacation Permanent full-time employees earn vacation based on the first year of employment. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, with usage policy determined by assignment. Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn vacation after the completion of one year of continuous service. Sick Leave Permanent full-time employees accrue sick leave at a standard rate; accrual begins from the first month of employment, with usage policy determined by assignment. Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn sick leave after the completion of one year of continuous service. Health Plan The City currently provides medical coverage through Aetna. The City pays the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for dependents. Permanent full-time employees have the option of electing coverage from three plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with HSA and Open Access Managed Choice Plan (POS). Permanent part-time employees have the option of electing coverage from two plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO) and the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). The City also offers Dental coverage through Delta Dental. Pension and Investment Plans Pension (Defined Benefit Plan) Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the City sponsored pension plans, funded by mandatory City and employee contributions. The Plan provides a guaranteed income, based on years of service, upon retirement. 457(b) Plan (Deferred Compensation) Employees can elect to participate in this Plan, which enables the employee to defer compensation on a pretax basis, not to exceed the applicable limits established by the IRC.
