Phlebotomist III – Elgin, IL Hours: Monday to Friday, varying schedule with rotational weekends. Pay Range: $22.94 – $26.40 per hour. Delivers professional phlebotomy services at assigned Patient Service Centers (PSCs) or Client Offices (IOPs). Ensures accurate specimen collection, patient identification, and adherence to testing protocols to support high‑quality laboratory results. Communicates effectively to create a professional and efficient experience for patients, staff, and clients. Works independently with a consistently low error rate, handles complex collections and patient/client situations, and may act as a mentor to on‑site staff. Responsibilities Perform specimen collections following established procedures for a variety of tests, including venipuncture and capillary draws; handle difficult draws such as pediatric, geriatric, and hard sticks with minimal error. Obtain patient identification and signatures to confirm specimen labeling accuracy; perform data entry as necessary. Prepare specimens for transport and testing, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and storage as required. Research test/client information and confirm all written and electronic orders by using lab technology systems. Patient Experience & Customer Service Provide exemplary professional, respectful, and efficient service to all patients and clients. Use strong verbal and written communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills to complete daily procedures and address patient questions. Perform highly accurate data entry for patient registration, test order entry, and billing information. Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming collection environment. Handle multiple priorities in a high‑volume setting. Operations & Compliance Serve as a subject matter expert for complex specimen requirements, special processing, and troubleshooting specimen issues. Demonstrate strong judgment in independently adapting to operational needs and ensuring workflow continuity. Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies. Follow departmental policies, procedures, safety protocols, and compliance standards, including confidentiality of patient information. Utilize laboratory systems, directories, and corporate tools to confirm orders and documentation. Support routine administrative tasks including supply stocking, sanitizing, maintaining logs, filing, email use, and answering phones. Complete all training and maintain current phlebotomy skills and knowledge. Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair; advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance. Site Support and Travel Assigned to a single designated Patient Service Center (PSC) or Client Office (IOP) location. Must be flexible with scheduling, including weekends and holidays as needed. Reliable transportation is required. Minimal travel to sites beyond the designated work site(s). Qualifications Required Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification required in California, Nevada, Washington, and Louisiana. English proficiency. Three years of phlebotomy experience. Preferred Qualifications Customer service experience in a retail or service environment. Phlebotomy accredited program, medical assistant, or paramedic training. Professional medical certification (medical assistant, phlebotomy, or similar). Experience with pediatric and geriatric collections. Physical and Mental Requirements Lift up to 15 lbs frequently; up to 40 lbs occasionally (with assistance as needed). Perform repetitive hand motions with fine dexterity; stand or sit for extended periods. Frequent walking and standing; occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, or pulling. Use phone and computer extensively; communicate frequently in English with patients and clients. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of phlebotomy best practices, including pediatric and geriatric draws. Ability to perform accurate, error‑free work in a fast‑paced setting, with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills and adaptability to change. Licenses and Certifications Phlebotomy certification (required in CA, NV, WA, LA). Professional medical certification strongly desired (medical assistant, phlebotomy, or similar).
