BIOLOGY/SCIENCE TEACHER located at Trimble JR/SR High


Purpose: To help students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for development into mature, responsible young adults.


Reports To : Principal


Qualifications :

1. A bachelor's degree or higher and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position.
2. The ability to work effectively with students, peers and adults.
3. The ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty.
4. The ability to travel between sites.

Job Summary:


The teacher has the responsibility to provide an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program aligned with the district's curriculum and goals that will result in the students achieving success in the post-secondary environment.

Essential Performance Responsibilities and Duties:

Professional

1. Develop and maintain positive and cooperative interactions and communication with school staff, clients, and the community.
2. Promote a positive attitude and enthusiasm toward education, the school, and the district.
3. Maintain and improve professional competence.
4. Attend and participate in required school and district professional development activities.
5. Complete the evaluation/staff development cycle.
6. Share expertise and knowledge with other staff.
7. Maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational record.
8. Demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
9. Carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue monitoring and checking.
10. Adhere to the Trimble County Board of Education Policies and Procedures.

Instructional

1. Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
2. Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
3. Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
4. Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
5. Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
6. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
7. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
8. Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
9. Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
10. Assume responsibility for meeting individual student and school-wide student performance goals.
11. Demonstrate gains in student performance.
12. Establish standards of classroom conduct and administer them in a fair, equitable, and consistent manner.
13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Building

1. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual evaluation plan and professional growth plan.
2. Provide supervision in non-classroom areas and situations.
3. Promote and maintain a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and building.
4. Keep accurate records and provide them for administration. File required reports on a timely basis.
5. Develop a budget for applicable programs and insure that needed materials are ordered following district procedures with the administrator's approval.
6. Participate in required staff meetings, conferences, and Professional Learning Communities.
7. Participate in committees as related to student needs, school programs, and district needs.
8. Care for school and district resources, equipment and materials assigned to him/her and report concerns regarding facility and equipment to the designated supervisor.
9. Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all procedures and practices prescribed in the Teacher, Student, and/or Parent Handbooks.
10. Maintain a current folder of responsibilities and procedures for substitute teacher's use.
11. Keep an accurate and detailed account of all monies collected and submit detailed accounting of such money to the appropriate office personnel.
12. Provide direction and/or supervision for instructional assistants, student teachers, interns, and substitutes.

• Hearing Acuity - perceiving speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels.
• Visual Acuity - seeing at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.

  • Color - ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Peripheral - observing an area that can be seen up and down or right and left when eyes are fixed on a given point.

Salary: Commensurate with the school district's Certified Salary Schedule


Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions as activities occur both inside and outside.
