Position: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 annually Dept: Clinical Type: Exempt Reports To: Associate Direct Speech and Communication Services Location: On Site Company Overview Shrub Oak International School (SOIS) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education. We are a residential school located on a scenic 127-acre campus which includes multiple buildings and a working farm for student programming. You value reflective practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-informed intervention, and continuous professional growth while recognizing that communication is foundational to learning, relationships, emotional regulation and independence Job Responsibilities Responsible for evaluating communication needs, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and supporting functional communication across educational, residential, vocational, and community environments. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and families. Promote meaningful participation, independence, and quality of life for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Clinical Practice Conduct comprehensive speech-language, communication, AAC, and related evaluations and re-evaluation. Develop and implement individualized, evidence-informed treatment plans aligned with each student’s strengths, needs, and goals. Provide individual and group speech-language therapy within a transdisciplinary model of care. Assess, recommend, implement, and monitor augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, including high-and low-tech supports. Monitor student progress using clinical observation, outcome measures, and ongoing data collection, modifying treatment plans as appropriate. Promote functional communication, self-advocacy, autonomy, and participation across educational, residential, vocational, community and family settings. Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically meaningful documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Participate in interdisciplinary assessment, treatment planning, and Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plans (ITEPs). Collaborate with Mental health, Behavior Analysis, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Psychiatry, Education, Residential, and other team members. Provide consultation to staff to promote the generalization of communication skills across settings. Participate in admissions, quarterly reviews, transition planning, and discharge planning. Family Partnership Partner with families through consultation, education, and ongoing communication regarding student progress and communication strategies. Support the generalization of communication skills across home, school, residential, and community environments. Systems Consultation & Staff Development Provide coaching and consultation to educational, residential, and clinical staff regarding communication strategies and AAC implementation. Support staff in understanding communication differences and adapting environments to maximize student access. Participate in professional development and contribute discipline-specific expertise to organizational learning. Crisis Prevention & Clinical Risk Participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) and other required safety training. Support communication during behavioral crises and assist in developing proactive communication supports. Recognize changes in student presentation requiring interdisciplinary intervention and follow mandated reporting and organizational safety procedures. Professional Responsibilities Model ethical, professional, and relationship-centered practice. Maintain discipline-specific licensure, certification, and professional competencies. Participate in supervision, department meetings, quality improvement activities, and ongoing professional development. Position Requirements Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology NYS Licensure in good standing with up to 3 years of experience is preferred Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) certification Experience working with autistic individuals or individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems preferred Experience in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans that address challenging behaviors and promote positive outcomes. Due to the nature of work in supporting our students, all job description list the physical requirements for that position Our campus consists of some paved areas but primarily consists of grass, gravel paths and parking lots. Additionally, many areas of our building are fully accessible, however, as a historic building some areas are only accessible by stairs. You must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass and gravel. Student Facing Positions: Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis, both for the safety of the student and for the staff. Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor an eloping student, and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation. You must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools). You must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold.
