Staff Clinical Psychologist Compensation range: $89,958.96 - $150,112.04 per year. Location: Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA. Schedule: Full‑time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Responsibilities Deliver direct patient care including crisis management, suicide risk assessment, behavior management interventions, substance abuse treatment, supportive therapy, and bereavement services for patients receiving palliative care. Provide comprehensive psychological services—evaluation, treatment, and routine/urgent consultation for medical and surgical inpatients and outpatients. Conduct suicide and self‑injury risk assessments and determine need for safety or precautionary measures. Deliver crisis intervention and develop behavior‑management plans for patients experiencing acute stress or behavioral disturbances. Offer psychological support to terminally ill patients and their families; participate in behavioral health rounds with multidisciplinary teams. Collaborate with Addiction Medicine Specialists to assess substance‑use treatment needs and contribute to individualized care plans. Document all clinical services in the electronic medical record in compliance with hospital, CMS, and Joint Commission standards. Provide supervision to psychology trainees; participate in hospital committees; contribute to the Psychology Training Program; present at hospital‑wide trainings such as Grand Rounds. Assist with implementing new or revised clinical programs; provide required weekend and holiday coverage; perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Strong foundation in psychological theory, psychotherapy principles, and a broad range of therapeutic modalities. Expertise in psychological testing, including administration, scoring, and interpretation of intelligence, aptitude, and personality assessments. Knowledge of developmental psychology, psychopathology, counseling practices, interviewing techniques, motivation and reinforcement strategies, and psychological research methods. Ability to recognize symptoms of mental and emotional disorders, analyze clinical data, draw conclusions, and make sound treatment recommendations. Proficiency in statistical methods, sampling techniques, and preparing clear, accurate clinical and statistical reports. Skilled in delivering effective presentations, providing clear instructions, gathering information through observation and interviewing, and maintaining accurate, confidential records. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in group settings, respond calmly and decisively in stressful or emergency situations, and build positive, professional relationships with patients and staff. Preferred Qualifications Understanding of the range of public and private community‑based organizations and resources available for treatment or rehabilitation of individuals with emotional disturbances, intellectual disabilities, or other developmental disabilities. Application of relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines that govern the operations and activities of the assigned unit. Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques to effectively guide, support, and oversee the work of others. Education and Licensing Applicants must have a Doctorate in Psychology from an American Psychological Association‑accredited school and at least one year of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) professional experience as a Licensed Psychologist in a recognized agency providing psychological services or treatment. Current and valid registration as a Psychologist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Psychology is required. Salary placement will consider years of directly related experience and education, in accordance with the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. Background and Verification Potential candidates will undergo a criminal background check. Education, licensure, and certification information will be verified in accordance with the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines and the Massachusetts Public Records Law.
