Description:
The department is focused on emergency services.
Candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications.
Candidates who have worked in a permanent capacity within the last 6 months will not be considered.
The facility does not have a trauma designation or stroke center.
An interventional cath lab is available for STEMIs Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
The emergency room has 18 beds, including 4 trauma bays, all of which are private.
There are 2 fast track rooms within the department.
A triage area is available; travelers can work in triage after passing the designated triage test.
Hold patients are intermixed within the department.
There is 1 room designated for psychiatric patients, though it is not true seclusion.
Security personnel are present, equipped with weapon detectors at public entrances.
The department sees approximately 67 patients per day.
The nurse-to-patient ratios are 4:1 in half of the department and 5:1 in the other half.
Registered nurses are expected to titrate drips and manage set-rate cardiac drips.
A physician is available 24/7, with a second physician present from 12 PM to 10 PM.
There are no mid-level providers on staff.
Assigned charge nurses take patient assignments during slower hours or if called in.
A house supervisor is available 24/7.
The department staffs with a technician 24/7, with a second technician from 11 AM to 11 PM.
Some technicians are EMTs, and medics may take patient assignments or fill in technician roles.
Technician duties include rooming patients, checking vital signs, conducting blood sugar checks, starting IVs, drawing blood, performing EKGs, applying splints, changing dressings, and catheter insertions.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for breathing treatments, ABGs, BiPAP, and vents.
All respiratory equipment is accessible in the emergency room.
Registered nurses are responsible for the administration of inhalers to hold patients.
There is a central monitor within the department that is unmanned.
Registered nurses are tasked with interpreting cardiac strips.
A monitor technician in the critical care unit oversees the monitoring for the department.
X-ray and CT services are located adjacent to the department.
Stable patients are transported, while assistance is requested for larger patients during the night.
Registered nurses are responsible for drawing blood, along with the technicians and medics.
Scheduling is coordinated for 6-week periods and typically planned 4-6 weeks in advance.
Registered nurses are required to work every third weekend.
Holiday work may be necessary based on departmental needs.
Travelers are not expected to take call or standby shifts.
Registered nurses routinely float, except to overflow units.
The dress code requires navy or royal blue scrubs.
Hall beds are not utilized in the emergency room.
