HR Generalist/Business Partner

Summary The Human Resources Generalist administers and supports core Human Resources functions, ensuring effective recruitment, orientation, employee relations, benefit administration, regulatory compliance, compensation, diversity, awards and recognition, employee development and engagement, performance management, and retention programs for Hawthorn Medical Associates providers. The role establishes local policies, communicates corporate policies, operates independently with judgment and discretion, and consults with the VP Hawthorn Operations and others as needed. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Role model the organization’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence in interactions with patients, customers, and colleagues. Develop departmental plans, goals, mission, policies/procedures, and budget; select, train, monitor, evaluate, and engage staff. Administer employee benefit plans, coordinate annual Open Enrollment, enroll employees/shareholders, manage changes, and resolve issues with vendors. Enter benefit and contribution data in ADP modules and file required reports with the State of Massachusetts. Plan and implement HR initiatives including recruitment, selection, promotion/transfer, orientation, compensation, benefits, and labor relations in collaboration with management. Educate and advise managers on personnel issues such as terminations, disputes, and morale. Provide technical oversight of HR programs and systems to ensure compliance with corporate policies and federal, state, and local laws. Develop and execute recruitment strategies, advertise positions, conduct job fairs, screen candidates, verify references, negotiate salaries, and extend offers. Facilitate open‑door policy and employee‑manager discussions to resolve conflicts and promote a positive workplace. Maintain record‑keeping and reporting for ADA, FMLA, COBRA, workers’ compensation, retirement, disability, turnover, HRIS, and safety/health functions. Recommend policy and training changes to ensure legal compliance. Respond to unemployment and Massachusetts PFML claims. Coordinate HR, diversity, and training programs to enhance morale, productivity, and policy knowledge. Analyze annual salary survey data and recommend compensation adjustments. Represent the company at hearings, trials, and other legal venues. Participate in annual 401(k) audit, providing records and responding to auditors. Conduct exit interviews, report turnover data, and recommend improvements. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field, or equivalent training and experience. Advanced degree and/or Human Resources Certification Institute certification desirable. Seven years of progressively responsible experience as an HR generalist, with at least three years in a leadership role. Experience in a health‑care environment preferred. Strong counseling, verbal and written communication skills. Computer literacy. Technical knowledge of HR practices, laws, and regulations.
