Registered Nurse- ICU, PT Nights

Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, family, peers, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members in the delivery of healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, creates and implements care plans, and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in accordance with hospital philosophy, policies, and standards. They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth. Responsibilities Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated: Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status. Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care, including transfer and discharge documentation as indicated. Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Verbalizes medication information to patients, family, and significant others; assesses the patient prior to administration, noting allergies, parameters, potential side‑effects, effectiveness, and intervenes as needed; reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy. Coordinates and supervises delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks, and maintains accountability for delegated care. Actively promotes a culture of safety: Assesses patients for potential safety risks. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety and initiates interventions for identified risk factors. Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peer on assigned patients at change of shift. Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process responsibly, accountably, and ethically. Ensures patient hand‑off when leaving for breaks. Assesses learning needs of patients, families, and significant others; plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods; assesses and documents response to teaching. Cares for specific patient populations regardless of location as necessary. Delivers Patient-Centered Care: Embraces cultural diversity and difference of patients and team members. Respects the dignity of all individuals through a caring relationship. Maintains open lines of communication, actively listening. Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position. Teach and mentor others. Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice. Education Associate’s Level Graduate. Licensure and Credentials Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals). Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals). New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only). Preferred certifications: American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification, based on specialty hours of work requirement. Required Training BLS – Required upon hire (All Nursing Care Areas). ACLS – Required by end of orientation for ED, ICU, CCU, SDU, PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR units. PALS – Required by end of orientation for ED, PACU, and Pediatric areas (Alternate: ENPC). NRP – Required by end of orientation for MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR. EFM – Within 1 year of hire for LDRP. TNCC – Within 1 year of hire for ED, ICU, PACU. ENPC – Within 1 year of hire for ED RN. TCAR – Within 1 year of hire for ICU, etc. CPI or other de‑escalation technique training – Within 6 months of hire for Behavioral Health, ED, Float Pool units. S.T.A.B.L.E – Within 6 months of hire for OB (NDH only). Chemotherapy Certification – Within 1 year of hire for Inpatient Oncology. Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity. Occupational: Some occupational risk. Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. force. Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. Credentials: RN, BLS.
