Overview UnityPoint-Sunnybrook ClinicFull-Time Day ShiftM-F, No weekends or holidays!Performs clinical tests and procedures in multiple sections of the laboratory. Performs phlebotomy procedures on laboratory outpatients. May instruct students in the Medical Laboratory Science and Phlebotomy Programs and train nursing and clinic staff in Phlebotomy techniques and miscellaneous testing. Responsibilities Demonstrates technical and operational expertisePerforms testing and test procedures according to established policies and guidelinesInterprets quality control results and instrument functionDesignated as a charge tech and lead operator for laboratory instrumentsAdvanced skills for special or advanced technical proceduresCompletes scheduled preventive maintenance duties Provides assistance and guidance involving repairs, validations, and function checks and works with vendors as appropriateCollects blood specimens, etc. from laboratory outpatientsOrganizes, prioritizes, executes and interprets workloadActs as a resource technologist for coworkers in a specific areaFunctions as a designee in the absence of managerMultiple levels of expertise in areas of the labActively assists coworkers with interpretations and troubleshooting and possible corrective actionsParticipates in Quality Assurance (QA) and Resource ManagementAssists and completes investigations involving unexpected or adverse outcomes and keeps documentation according to regulatory guidelinesOrganizes and adapts to changes in workflow due to instrumentation or computer downtimesProvides solutions and technical support to aid in delivery of patient careAssures patient care in unusual conditions/conflicts is not compromisedAssists and monitors necessary supplies and kit availability for patient testingResponsible for following manufacturer’s recommended instructions for utilizing testing material and kits as well as assists with reagent orders from vendorsTechnical and Teaching Assistance Participates in the bench instruction of Clinical Laboratory Scientist students, phlebotomy students, nurses and clinic staffProvides operational training for coworkers involving manual, automated, and organizational skills for patient testingProvides knowledge acquired thru experience and training to assist new hires and current coworkersPractices good communication skills with internal and external customersCommunicates hand-off details to coworkers at shift changeMaintains composure and professionalism involving conflicts with internal and external customers Qualifications Education:Bachelor’s degree with major in Medical Technology or related science required.Experience: Less than one year.Licenses/Cerfitications: Certified as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by Board of Registry of ASCP or equivalent.Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity.
