Field Service Technician

Overview Star Automation, Inc. was established in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, in 1991. We specialize in automatic unloaders & custom automation solutions to increase productivity, profitability and safety for injection molders worldwide. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Service Technician to join our dynamic team in East Providence, RI. The technician installs, inspects and services company equipment, ensuring product performance, addressing and resolving customer questions and problems, and conducting training and service programs in operation and maintenance of products. The technician will receive tools and a vehicle for travel and will perform extensive travel throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, with the entirety of North America possible. Responsibilities Install, inspect, and start‑up company‑manufactured automatic unloading equipment and custom automation solutions at customer sites according to specifications and drawings. Monitor erection and installation of equipment to ensure company guidelines and tolerances have been met. Service all company products at customer sites; test, troubleshoot and adjust as needed. Use various gauges, meters, and electrical testing equipment to check specifications. Provide technical support to customers over the telephone and via email, addressing and resolving questions and problems. Communicate with appropriate company employees regarding product problems to facilitate resolution. Conduct training and service programs in the operation and maintenance of equipment for customer employees. Complete all required records and documentation for customers and the company. Determine the acceptance of equipment installation to activate warranty. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 1–2 years of technical experience. Industry‑specific certifications are a plus. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, customer specifications, warranties, company standards, and operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools and electronic testing equipment; ability to travel; ability to read and work from blueprints and schematics. Ability to operate standard office machines (computer, telephone, fax, copier, etc.). Physical strength to lift/move up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally 100 lbs or more. Ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle tools and controls, reach above shoulders, climb or balance; and sit, stoop, kneel or crouch as required. Physical Demands Regularly talk or hear. Work Environment Work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. High, precarious places. Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Loud noise level. Travel-based position with visits to customers and work sites in the field; may include travel outside the country. Job Type Full‑time / 1st Shift Schedule Monday to Friday Overtime Pay Starting at $20.00 – $37.00 per hour (based on experience/qualifications). Work Location SAI office location – 860A Waterman Avenue; East Providence, RI On the road – Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, with the entirety of North America possible.
