Job Description and Duties
FORESTRY TECHNICIAN (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – GOLD FIELDS DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES
The reporting location for this position is the Gold Fields District Office. Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).This position will assist natural resource management staff in the District in implementing projects for the protection, restoration, and management of natural resources in support of the State Parks Wildfire and Forest Resilience Program. Working cooperatively with the District Environmental Scientists (DES), the Forestry Technician (PI) assists natural resource management staff in the District in implementing projects for the protection, restoration, and management of natural resources in support of the State Parks Wildfire and Forest Resilience Program. The position works closely with seasonal field staff and contracted labor crews conducting technical resource management. The Forestry Technician participates in the prescribed fire as part of the district’s burn team. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.
This position may work up to 1500 hours per year. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. Employee must attend (at employer’s expense) and pass Basic Firefighter training within 12 months of hire and must pass, within 1 month, the fire community's standardized Moderate Pack Test (Requirements: 2-mile walk with 25 lb. pack in 30 minutes. No jogging or running). Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application. Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Thorough knowledge of coastal northern California flora and vegetation types, be able to identify plant species using dichotomous keys and maintain field notes. Possess excellent field navigation skills, and and familiarity with electronic data collection (Field Maps/ArcMap/ArcPro). Work well as an individual and in a multidisciplinary team setting.
