Benefits: Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership and oversight to ensure the organization’s fiscal health, long-term sustainability, and compliance with all applicable regulatory, contractual, and donor requirements. The CFO directs all financial operations and serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors on financial planning, analysis, and decision-making, while safeguarding organizational assets and maintaining strong financial controls. This role ensures the effective stewardship of resources and aligns financial management practices with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives to support operational effectiveness, growth, and long-term impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred. Preferred Professional Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) or equivalent nonprofit finance credential Experience: Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including at least three (3) years in a senior leadership or executive-level finance role. Experience in nonprofit financial management, including grant administration, restricted funds, donor reporting, and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated experience developing and managing complex budgets, financial forecasts, and financial reporting. Experience working with boards of directors, finance committees, and external auditors. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting nonprofit organizations. Experience leading and developing finance and accounting teams. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and nonprofit tax reporting requirements, including Form 990. Knowledge of audit processes, internal controls, risk management practices, investment management, and treasury functions. Proficiency with financial systems and enterprise-level cloud accounting software, preferably NetSuite. Strong strategic planning, financial analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information effectively to leadership, board members, funders, and other stakeholders. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Advanced proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and spreadsheet analysis. Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and sound ethical judgment. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Provide strategic financial leadership by developing and implementing the organization's financial strategy, advising the Executive Director/President, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on financial matters, long-term planning, growth initiatives, and organizational sustainability. Direct all financial planning and analysis activities, including annual budgeting, multi-year forecasting, scenario planning, budget monitoring, and financial performance analysis to ensure alignment of resources with organizational priorities and objectives. Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, cash management, and liquidity monitoring, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Prepare and present timely and accurate financial statements, analyses, and reports to executive leadership, finance and audit committees, and the Board of Directors to support informed decision-making and organizational transparency. Ensure compliance with applicable nonprofit accounting standards, tax regulations, grant requirements, donor restrictions, and reporting obligations, including the preparation and filing of Form 990 and other required regulatory reports. Establish, implement, and maintain effective internal controls, financial policies, and risk management practices; coordinate independent audits; address audit findings; and ensure ongoing compliance and audit readiness. Oversee the financial administration of grants, contracts, and restricted funds, including budget development, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and support for grant applications and funding opportunities. Manage treasury functions, banking relationships, cash flow, investments, reserve funds, and financing strategies in accordance with Board-approved policies and the organization's financial objectives. Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board of Directors, finance and audit committees, donors, funders, and other stakeholders, promoting accountability, transparency, and stewardship of organizational resources. Lead and develop finance, accounting, and related administrative staff by establishing performance expectations, supporting professional development, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and ensuring adequate financial management capacity.
